When I was about 4-5 my father came home and told my mother that so and so had "been FIRED". All she said was.. "Gee that's too bad" and continued eating her dinner. I was horrified and couldn't believe my mom could be so casual about something that I assumed meant--- they were tied to a stake and had a fire lit all around them and they had to stand and tolerate it, much like the days of witchcraft. Not long after that my dad was"FIRED" too--- and I burst into tears--- my parents were surprised at my emotional outburst!

In elementary school, I believed that every day, kids went to school and adults went to work, which meant the streets would be empty. I was shocked when I had to go to the doctor one day and saw cars out on the road. I thought for sure all these people must be playing hooky from work.

when i was old enough to know what birthdays meant, my grandfather told me that he quit having birthdays. It was very strange to me that my mom (which was his daughter) was getting older than him. But, everybody backed up his story. To this day, he is still 29! (and holding, of course!)

My name is Anna, one time when I was a child my farther was putting on his coat, I asked my mother 'what's Daddy doing?' she said 'He's just putting on his anorak' and I replied 'Thats not an Annarak, thats a Daddyrak!' - I honestly thought each coat had a different name depending on the person it belonged to...
Makes sence in a kid-logic kind of way.

When I was 10 my dad coached my girl's soccer team. One day at practice the team was slacking off so my dad said, "I'm 103 years old and I can do this drill faster than you!" One girl on the team took it to heart and went hold and told her mom that "Mr. B's 103 years old!" I guess my dad's balding gray hair was all it took to convince her! Gee, I guess that makes Dad about 121 now.

My father's side of the family has a Portugese background, but I was never taught to speak the language. I did however, have to call women on that side of the family Tia so-and-so (Tia Norma, Tia Evelyn etc). I always wondered why I never had to call them auntie, and why they all had the same first name.. that is until my 8th grade Spanish class when I learned that Tia means aunt in Spanish, and I figured out it does in Portugese too!
I thought that King and Queen were titles like Mr and Mrs that you could use when you were in a royal family. So when a prince and princess got married, they'd automatically become King and Queen So-and-So.

AS a child ( my father was 50 when I was born) I truly believed that my dad was friends with George Washington, and Abraham Lincoln ( Not Possible for several reasons)..I thought he had wooden teeth too, because when he and George needed to get new teeth, all they had back then were wooden ones. I used to to tell this story to all of the kids in school...No wonder why I got picked on all the time!
I used to think that when people were fired from their job they were actually set on fire. When I was in kindergarten, my teacher was fired and when my parents told me I cried for a week. They couldn't understand why I was so heartbroken.
