When I was about 5 I was convinced that as you got older you got taller, cos everyone I knew who was older than me got taller. Consequently I believed you just kept growing and growing throughout life. In hindsight, my grandfather should have been 10 feet tall.

I thought that, by age 10, you were a grown-up. I think I got this idea from babysitters who were only in their teens, but were in charge.

I had some friends who were younger than me. I thought that I would slow down when I grew and soon they would become older than me.

I used to believe that when you grew up, you became the opposite gender of what you were when you were a kid. I thought my mom started out as a boy and my dad started out as a girl. I became very mad when I thought I was going to become a girl when I grew up!

When I was a kid I used to think that 16 was old. Why? Because grown ups didn't want to play the way I did and neither did 16 year olds. Grown ups were old, so it seemed like anyone who didn't want to play with toys and have fun was old. None of my 16 year old babysitters wanted to play with toys.

When I was a kid, I could not possibly believe that ANYONE would want to grow up and leave their parents. I was about 6 and told my mom that when I grew up I was NEVER going to leave her! And now I know why we grow up and move out.

My dad used to tell me that when I got into my teens, I would turn into a "Gorshkin," a kind of animal that has horns. I used to picture some kind of gargoyle or puck creature.

It turns out it was his little joke, and he actually told me that in my teens, I would become a Gorshkin, which was "horny" creature.

When my sister was about three she would always say that she wanted to grow up to be a big girl just like her brother Chris. She would also say that first she would be a girl then she would be a boy then she would be a mother and then a father.
