When I found this site randomly a little while ago, I almost immediately looked for beliefs about numbers. The reason for this is because I wanted to find out if I was the only freak who subconciously associates numbers with genders and personalities. :P (Not that other people who think that are freaks or anything, just that I felt like one.) Whoever said 9 was "manipulative".. yeah, I thought that too. I also thought of the numbers like 7 and 3 as mean. 7 and 8 are enemies. 2 is everyone's friend. 9, 8 and 5 are female. 8 is kind of naive. And so on.
Well, I think it is a really weird belief. *laughs* I hadn't even ever told anyone about it until I was explaining it to my brother a couple of weeks ago.. he thought I was crazy. ;) Oh well.

When I was little, I used to get "bastard" and "mustard" confused. I thought "mustard" was the insult. As a result, if I wanted to insult someone, I called them a "mustard"... this led to a great deal of confusion. Now, about 12 years later, me and my friends use "mustard" as an insult to people who don't know the story ("You're a mustard!").

When I was about 6, our reading book at school had the story "Penelope Gets a New Bike." I thought it was pronounced "Pin-uh-lope", so when the teacher called on me to read, I said, "Pin-a-lope went to the park..." My teacher said, "That's pin-el-o-pe." Nobody laughed or anything, but I was still very embarassed.
i used to think stigmata meant the really clear, white sunbeams that you could see reaching down to the earth.

When i was 7, i thought f*** was some sort of naughty British name for a street in London because that's what my mom said it was. A few months later, I was at a sleepover and my friends asked if i knew what f*** meant and i told them what my mom had told me and my friend cracked up and told me what it "really meant"(she said it was a female dog.) I argued with her for a good hour and a half and we stayed in a fight for 3 months. Now that we both know what f*** means, we joke about our fight all the time.

When I was a kid, I didn't know what the word "butt plug" meant. But I knew it was a naughty word, one you weren't supposed to say, so that is what I called my brother when I was angry with him. Father Bob, at the catholic school where I attended, one day gave a lesson in controlling your anger, and asked what names we might call our siblings when we were angry with them. He called on me, first, and I stood up and said loudly, "Butt plug! Douche Bag!" and everyone in the classroom laughed. Except Father Bob! He was so upset, he blustered, was a bright purple, and told me to sit down! I was never called on again! lol

When I was young I had mixed up many words e.g. cinnamon and cyanide and when in the kindergarten I get some dish with cinnamon I thought it's poisonous. I told to everyone who sat around me, they can't eat this, otherwise they'll die. Nobody wanted to eat, we were sitting so frightened.
I resent my mom for laughing at me when I asked, after a visit to the department store, "Why do men swear?"...of course it was the menswear dept.
I had a friend who thought Shumk was the most horrible swear in the world. Whenever i used it she would yell at me and hit me.

When I was 9 or 10, I used to call my friend a "dildo". For some reason, I thought it meant "silly", until my friend's horrified mother told me otherwise!!

When I was little I would always get in trouble for saying 'Jesus Christ' if I dropped or broke something, so I thought it was a swear word. I remember driving past a church 'The Church of Jesus Christ', and I couldn't figure out why I wasn't allowed to say it buy churches were.
I used to have a subscription to Highlights magazine. Their slogan on the front cover was "Fun with a Purpose" which I thought meant "Fun with a porpoise." Each month I scanned the pages looking for the fun porpoise...

When I was young, my mother would say "May I speak to..." when she made a phone call. I thought she was saying "Mass peak to..." So, when I got old enough to call my friends, I would say,"Mass peak to Jill?" or whoever it was that I called.
