I used to think that when someone(usually my dad), was saying "Pardon me", they were saying "Part me" because they said it fast and I didn't find out until I was 12.

Me and my brother used to think the site PolishForums was a forum site about nail polish until we clicked the link. We found out it was not about nail polish, shoe polish, furniture polish, or anything related to polishing stuff. It was confusing...

I have a friend whose son knows that eight is a number and ate is the past tense of eat. Because of this, he thinks that as well as being able to say that you ate something, you can also say that you sevened it, or sixed it, and so on. (Maybe he thinks that refers to the number of times you chew each mouthful before swallowing it, in which case if you say you oned it then presumably you gulped it down in one go without chewing it first!)

When I was five years old, my mom had a copy of a book titled "What Was Good About Today?" I thought the title meant that "Good" was the name of a TV show and that the author was asking what that day's episode was about.

There's a Captain Underpants book in which the heroes put the title character under a placebo effect, which they misidentify as a "placenta effect". I had heard of the concept, but the joke went over my head, and for years I referred to the phenomenon as "the placenta effect".

I once saw the phrase "infrared light" in a physics book I had. I thought the light has been infrared, as if "to infrare" (pronounce inf-rare) was a verb.

Not knowing the word "yield" as a child, I initially thought this was how one spelled "y'all". I figured the signs on the road were put there by the city to be welcoming to tourists, though it seemed like a poor strategy to me personally.

I used to believe that the word "world" was spelled and pronounced "waild". I may have misheard it but caught the meaning. I was only corrected when I asked if the road we lived on was connected to all the other roads in the waild.

I used to believe that "perhaps" was only used when you were tired of saying "maybe", instead of just being an alternative word, and I asked people who said it if they were tired of saying "maybe". I had a children's dictionary that explained that they meant the same thing by saying "'Perhaps' is a word you use when you are tired of saying 'maybe'".

As a kid, I'd only ever heard the word "Gesundheit" used in cartoons, so I thought it was a meaningless funny-sounding word that was only ever used in cartoons. Well, one time when I was visiting my neighbor (who was German), I heard her say "Gesundheit" after I sneezed. From then on, I thought she must have liked watching cartoons a lot.

I used to believe that when someone sneezed you would respond with "Blesh You" and that blesh was some word used only when someone sneezes.

I used to believe that the word "little" had five letters. Maybe it was because most of the letters in it were thin, or because the two t's blended together. Writing "litle" always looked wrong to me, but I didn't know why.

Until I was about 3 or 4 years old, I thought that the largest number was 18, and that there could only be 18 of everything. The first time I heard any number past 18 was once when I heard my mom counting to 20 (We were probably having a conversation about numbers), and I asked what the number "nineteennwenty" looked like.

Until about my freshman year in high school, I always heard about mostly celeberties being "incognito" but i always thought they were in Cognito like as a place. I thought Cognito was some tropical island somewhere.
