When I was just learning to read, one of my favorite books was Babar. Because I couldn't read it (my mom had to read it out loud to me), and because Babar is French, I thought that the book was written in French and that my mom was really smart to be able to translate it into English for me. It was actually written in cursive.
So, for the longest time, I thought that anything written in cursive was French!

When I was little, my mom wanted to buy me a subscription to a magazine called "Children's Digest," but I absolutely refused to get it because I thought the magazine was all about digestion, and who wants to read about that?

When i was in kindergarden, my family moved (military), so i went to 2 schools for kindergarden. Anyway, when i got there, the first thing they did was recess before school started. I met this kid, and he told me that the middle finger meant hello. So when we got to class, i walked in and flicked off everyone. I spent the next 5 weeks in a corner.

When I was about 7 or 8, I thought I could speak every language in the world...and I told my parents this and I thought that they believed that I could...I would pick up the phone and talk different languages to the dial tone, thinking people could here me and they would talk back...Now I was extremely shy at this age, so whevever we went to a foriegn resturant my dad would threaten to tell the waiter that I could speak his language...so after about 2 months of that, I stopped. Parents ruin everything...

When I first learned the alphabet, I came to the conclusion that some letters were composed of several letters; like B ("Bee"), C ("Cee"), D ("Dee"), F ("Eff"), etc. I ended up thoroughly confusing my mom.

Im probably not the only one that thought this but when I was like 3-4 ish when I first started getting into learning and such (Like Math) I thought 1+1=11 because two 1's puttogether are 11 (Double one)
I used to believe when I was 5 or 6 that if you kept talking with a stronger and stronger accent that eventually your words would come out in a different language.
I began reading very early, and so I knew a lot of words at a young age. However, I had only seen them written; I had never heard them spoken. So from age four to about age 10, I belived that the word "procedure" was pronounced "pro-DUCK-shure". When I heard the word "procedure' spoken by a teacher or something, I thought it was a completely different word! My dad finally enlightened me in fifth grade.
I thought I had invented the word "asshole". At this point I was too young to have heard it on TV. A few years later I was allowed to watch some films and TV with swearing in and when the word "asshole" was used, I was delighted. I assumed that in the few years since I had invented it, its use had become more widespread to the point that it had entered the English language. Go me!
I used to think up until now that when a piece of jewelery was paste(fake) that it was litterarally made of glue! Though I always wondered how they managed to make the jewels out of glue...

When I was younger, I had growing pains. One day I told my friend that my shin hurt really bad. Shocked, she shushed me and said that I shouldn't say that because God didn't like that. Anyway, it took me around 3 or four years to realize she thought I said shit. This realization was sadly discovered on a bathroom wall, when I thought they spelled shin wrong.
I used to think that because English is "universal", it was the most highly spoken language in the world. At 11 years of age, I was surprised to learn that the language spoken by the most people is Chinese, not English. I did not understand how that was so, until I learned that the population in China is huge.

When I was about four years old, I used to believe that the number 12 was a new number, just introduced when I was 6. So when I would count, I would count: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 4, 13, 14, 15, and so on. I went on to believe that 4 was just substituting until God made thought of a number for that spot.

When I saw my 6th grade teacher for the first time at a school assembly, I leaned over to my mom and said "He looks like a prick" thinking it meant uptight and proper, she gave me a look like she was going to smack me and told me never to use the word again. Only later, when finding a dictionary, did I understand its true meaning.
