When I was 6, I went to "after school care" because my parents worked later than school hours. One afternoon, I heard all the staff and some of the older students talking in a really worried way, and I heard them say, "After school care has been broken into!" But I thought they said that it has been "broken in two".. and I was really worried that I would be in a different half of it than all my friends.

I used to believe…

Every time I saw the word "sex" on a form, I'd show it to my friend in class and say "they wrote a bad word!" But in a couple years later, I noticed the words "Male/Female" so I guessed that it was another word for gender.

i had jsut moved to union ..and it was my first week ...and i asked the gurl next to me how to spell ok ...and i got really fusturated cuz all she said was ok ....later i found out after she wrote it down that its spelled ok ..

I used to think that cursive writing was just a big scribble. I would draw a bunch of squiggles and lines and show it to my grandmother saying, "what's this say grandma?" She would pretend that cetain squiggles meant certain things.
I felt really smart!

When I was a little kid, I asumed the word "several" was another way of saying "seven". And several could ONLY mean seven, and I would actually sometimes substitute "several" for seven while counting!

i used to believe that cursive was another launguage, and that you learned how to read it when you grew up. I would always make squiggly lines on paper and ask my mom what it said.

I used to believe…

When I was 5, my mom was being sued, and whenever I heard her discussing the lawsuit with my dad, I thought she was saying "lost shoe." So I worried very much that she would never find her lost shoe. It wasn't until I was saying grace at dinner one night and asked God to help my mom find her lost shoe that my parents figured out why I was so intent on helping my mom with her legal problems.

When I first started school I didn't know what the middle finger was. One of the kids said "I dare you to stick out the middle finger." So I said "ok" not knowing what it was. I stuck it out and the kids were all like "ooooo" and I was like "what? what did I do?" I didn't get in trouble though.

when I was little I got paparazzi and pavarotti confused, I learned the truth when Princess Diana died, because they said they were speeding to get away from the paparazzi, and I couldn't understand why a fat itallian singer would be chasing them and why they'd have to speed away from him.

I used to believe that our "voiceboxes" came with a finite number of words twe could speak in our lifetime, so I believed it wase wise to conserve words lest one become mute after middle age.

I used to believe…

When i was in second grade someone told me that the middle finger meant that you hated god. One time i actually did it and told that friend from then on she sayed how i hated god. It's a tradition in my family to watch the movie "A Christmas Story" during the holidays. There is this one scene where Ralphie, the kid, is helping his dad change a flat tire and he drops the hubcap he was holding the screws from the tire in, and he goes, "Oh fuuuuuuudge." His parents got really upset and his mom put a bar of soap in his mouth. So for a short time in my young life, I believed that in a different context, the word "fudge" was a cuss word.

It was only later, when I was about fifteen, that I realized what Ralphie was SUPPOSED to say, and that it couldn't be said in a PG-rated family Christmas movie.

When I was young, I would sing and dance to my favorite music on the radio. Well, one day I blurted out Gods name, which was said in a vain manner in the song. My family, being very Christian, knew nothing of my blurting, but I was so distraught that I slept on the floor (in the middle of winter with no blanket) for a week!
I look back and wonder "Where was my head?!"
