I was brushing my 3 year olds teeth the other day and she suddenly pulled away in discomfort. I asked her what was wrong and she annonced that 'her teeth were feeling sensible'.

I beleived as a child that French people thought in English and then had to translate it to French before they spoke

When I was at school I learned the alphabet as Aay Bee Cee Dee etc, my cousin [a year younger] was taught the phonetic alphabet Ah Buh Cuh Duh etc she asked me if I could say the alphabet so I started saying A B c, but she stopped me because she didn't know the capital letters [i.e uppercase] alphabet ...
Speaking of which I heard a kid in a shop asking his mother what "re-dock-ed" meant, he pointed to the signs sayign "reduced" and spelled it out using the phonetic alphabet, and indeed it did say re-dock-ed when spelled phonetically ...

I could never figure out what No unauthorised entry" signs meant, as I thought unauthorised was una-thor-sized. I was about 19 years old before I heard someone read one of these signs out loud and realised my mistake.
And there was a magazine that we used to get that would say on the cover "full story on centre pages", I thought it said "certain" pages and would spend ages flicking through the mage looking for the certain pages that the story was on!

One morning when i was little i made my mum a bowl of grapes for breakfast. I told her i was "doing her a flavour". Once my parents had finally stopped laughing they explained the word was "favour".

When I was a kid, I used to think that every single person in the world spoke English...since that's how it was on television. I was flabbergasted when refugees from central America started pouring into my school and started speaking English with an impenetrable accent. Turns out they were speaking Spanish ;-)

when Dad was watching TV, I used to block his view to try and get his attention. He would always say, "Get out of my way!" One day I asked, "Dad, where is your way? I can't see it!" I still get teased to this day...

i used to pronounce the name sean as seen for years right up untill i was at least 16 yrs untill my mum corrected me when i announced that my idol maddonna had married seen peen my mother was in fits of laughter for at least a week..

My mother used to believe that if she said the world "fuck" she would go to hell. So, when she was really frustrated with something, she would scream "Father Uncle Cousin King!" She later got over her fear of "fuck".

when i was a baby,my mom read me a story with a happy elephant and after that i thought "happy"was how you said elephant

I used to believe that each person had a certain amount of 'voice'. I thought that when people had lost their voice it had just run out, so I used to stay quiet for long periods of time to save it up.

Brazilian Portuguese is my native language. When I was about 8, I had my first lessons of a foreign language (English). I thought it was difficult to translate a text from Portuguese into English. Then, it would get more and more complicated as you continued converting that text into French and then into German... up to a point when no one would be able to understand it.

I used to think that 100+1=101 was too easy and therefore I thought it was wrong. I was soon corrected by my teacher who heard me calling somebody who thought that stupid.
