I used to belive when my parents talked a foreign language over our heads, it was actually just a "coded" version of my own language. I thought I just had to do something with my ears to understand it.

when I was very little and I did something I thought was particularly clever my brother used to say very quickly; 'What do you want a medal or a chest to put it on' I thought he was saying 'chester pudding' and eventually asked my mother what one of these was.

My friend was in Germany, and she thougth that "ausfart" was a city.

i used to believe that you were only swearing if you said 'oh god' - if you said 'oh MY god' it was fine.

I used to believe that learning foreign languages was simply a case of swapping letters in the alphabet. So in french the letter 'a' would be the english letter 'c', and so on. It was going to be so easy.

i used to think that everyone talked like americans, that no one really had an accent - they were just talking funny to be amusing. i guess this all started when i heard the beatles sing on the radio, and then heard them talking to the interviewer or whatever - they sounded "american" when they sang, but not when they were just talking. yah, i was weird...

when i was younger i used to love Andy Pandy books.i dont know why but i always thought that Andy Pandy was in fact a girl (maybe had to do with the fact that Andy Pandy did in fact look like and act like a girl..Deffinantley had a very feminine look...Pretty face and rosy cheehks).I Cant remember who his girlfriend was,Polly or something like that.Well anyway i would spend hours thinking that whow could polly be Andys girlfriend as they were both girls....Imagine what its like to be about 4-5 and trying to understand what lesbians were.It was all really weird and muy mom and dad found it all rather funny

I also used to think that women couldnt get pregnant until they were married.And that the moment they were married they were pregnant and 9months later would have a child...hahahah to that thought

When I was a young chap I couldn't understand why we had to learn English in school. I supported this with my belief of that every country had their own twist of English. Norwegians spoke Norwegian-English, the swedes spoke Swedish-English and so forth.

I used to get really mixed up between the words 'soldiers' and 'shoulders' to the extent that I had a fixation with the eppilettes on the shoulders of all of my Dad's friends. (My Dad was in the forces - so that didn't help really!)

When I heard the phrase "there's no rest for the wicked" when I was very young, I thought that it meant that wicked people get very little rest because there are so many wicked things that need doing. I believed that for many years.

I'm Norwegian, and I used to believe that all foreigners thought in Norwegian, but spoke another language. I even went so far as asking my mother to tell some English visitors to "speak the way they think"...

I used to believe that numbers had gender, that the odd numbers were boys and even numbers were girls.

I used to believe (until 2 years ago, I'm 25) that the word excavator was pronounced "ex-cav-a-gat-or". I have other words I could never pronounce right either. My family still makes fun of me...

when i was younger i overheard my parents talk about the CIA and since we spoke Spanish, when they said CIA it sounded like the word "silla" (which means chair in English). so for a long time i thought that there was this great big huge wooden chair that only very powerfull people used to sit in.

When I was 3 or 4 we owned a copy of a magazine with an article I looked at
repeatedly. The back cover got torn at some point, and one of my parents taped
it back together. Later, I saw the issue intact, with no tape and I concluded that
the magazine had healed. As an adult I realized that we must have had two
copies of the magazine.
