I Thought i was pretty smart as a young kid and liked to show off to my parents. On one roadtrip i wanted to show my parents i could count to a million, so i started counting and i knew up to 100 or so, but i remember my parents (maybe sick of my squeaky-voiced counting and "are you listening to me? Muuuum? Daaaad?") distracted me with a book i could write all the numbers instead

My mother used to believe that the word "shit" was a minor curse on the level of "damn it", and therefore thought it wouldn't do much harm to say it around the kids. She's in her forties, and she only found out the truth recently!

I thought the saying "run amok" was actually "run a muck" and figured a "muck" must be some weird measurement of distance I had never heard of!
I used to believe the word original meant basically the opposite of what it really means i.e something old and familiar. I think I thought this because I knew the original version of something meant the first so I thought if something was original it was similar to the first version

When I first heard someone described as a "household name," I figured it must mean that they have a mop or blender of some other household appliance named after them. Like a Dinah Shore toaster or a Johnny Cash stove.

When I was a kid I thought there was a biggest number. I asked my mom and dadd what was the biggest number but they said there was no biggest number since you could always just add another zero. They tried to explain this to me multiple times but I just couldn't wrap my mind around it!

When I was young and started learning how to read I read a sign at the mall next to an escalator that said "Adults must accompany children at all times when riding" and theres was a picture with an adult holding a child's hand, but as a child my imagination was very wild and I thought "adult" said alligator and the picture was and alligator too so I told my mom that I couldn't go down the escalator with her until I found an Alligator. Of course that belief didn't last long when she dragged me on the escalator and I found that nothing bad happened to me even with no alligator.

whenever i went to a restaurant the waitress would come up to the table and ask "soup or salad?" but thats not how i heard it, i thought she was saying "super salad"! i always liked soup better than salad, but i thought for a very long time that a salad was the only choice, and that it must be pretty good to be called a "super salad" dont ask how i didn't figure out the mistake when other people ordered soup except me, it took me a long time to figure out what the waitress was really saying.
i used to think that my adopted mom, who even at the time was quite old, was actually 10 years old. i thought this because i could only count up to ten at the time, so i thought 10 must be pretty old. i also thought that i would become a grown up when i became 10.

Before I went to Kindergarten and was learning to count, I always left out the number 8: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10. And my mum and dad would always say (so they would tell me, as I don't remember this): "What ever happened to poor old 8?" And I apparently would have no idea. And strange enough, 8 is my favorite number today!

When I was little I asked my mom whether American babies can understand other American babies, and Mexican babies can understand other Mexican babies. I thought babytalk was like adult languages, but only babies could understand it.

As a kid, I used to believe that you have a limited amount of words you could use in your lifetime, so I had to be carefull of talking too much, or I would be silent when I was 20. My parents wondered why I didn't much as a child. How relieved I was when I realized that I could talk as much as I liked!

My mom was in a beauty pageant, and during the interview part, they asked her what she thought about "euthanasia". She happily proceeded to talk about how much she loves "youth in asia".... I dare say she didn't win that pageant.
