I used to believe…

This isn't my belief, buy when my sister was little, she thought a hamster was a type of pig, a fetish was a large rat, and a bra was a beautiful woman.
My mother got very mad at me for teaching her these things when my sister told her teacher that she was her favourite bra ever.

When I was like 2, my dad was watching Monday Night Football, and before the commercials, it said "we'll be back after this commercial break", so I stood up on a chair and repeated it, and my dad's all "what did you say?" and i thought I was in trouble, because when he said that, it usually means I said a bad word, so I started crying, and my dad's like "ok time to go to bed, your too sad to stay up" but I didn't hear him b/c I was screaming at the top of my lungs, so he picked me up and then I'm thinking "man I must've said something really bad" and my mom woke up and heard me screaming, and my dad was like to my mom "she said---" but i like pinched his mouth shut b/c i didn't want to get in what I called "double trouble" so he had my fingernail marks on his lips, and I never said that again.

I used to believe…

When I was young, I heard the word "castrated" somewhere, which means to cut off one's penis. At the time, for some reason or another, I thought it meant to abandon something, like "abandon ship!" So, my younger brother and I were sledding one snowy winter evening, and we were headed for a tree... would you like to guess what I shouted?

When I was just learning to read, I thought the "No Loitering" sign said "No Lottering" as in playing the lottery and people who bought lottery tickets couldn't go there to wait for the numbers to be announced.

At another point, I was positive the word "loitering" had to do with some kind of inappropriate or obscene behavior. I'm not sure exactly what, but it just sounded that way to me.

I used to believe that "firearms" meant fire extinguishers, things you use to arm yourself against fires. I couldn't understand why fire extinguishers were illegal in some places.

I used to believe…

My grandmother and I were watching my baby sister play on the floor. My grandmother said, "she is priceless, isn't she?" I thought my grandmother meant that my baby sister wasn't worth anything.

On this site, I've actually seen some publishings about the same story as mine. But here it is anyway: When I was younger(about 8 years old) I saw the movie "A Christmas Story" where in a scene Ralphie accidentally lets the word F***K slip out of his mouth(oops!). And me, picking this up, I always thought swearing was coolor when I was a kid. I thought it made you seem older. So as you probably know, in the movie, it replaces it with the word "FUDGE". So whenever I got angry or really mad I'd grow into a fit of rage saying FUDGE repeatidly, over and over....Until I got a kick in the pants from dad....

In kindergarten, we believed that if you stuck up your pinky finger, that was the bad finger instead of the middle finger. This created a lot of confusion for our teachers when we said that someone stuck the 'bad finger' but we meant the pinky.

I grew up with Spanish being my first language but I picked up English somehow. I used to believe that Spanish was the first language of the world and every language borrowed Spanish words. Then I'd act smug when someone used a cagne. ( ie bicicleta=] bike) Then I learned Spanish was one of the Romantic languages along with English and French and I stoped acting smug.

I used to believe that the numbers had personalitys and had relationships with each other.
1-- was competing with 2 for 3's love.
2-- was competing with 1 for 3's love.
3-- was the object of affection of 1 and 2.
So to make them happy, I would make the number 132.
4-- loved 6
5-- didn't like the 4 loved 6 and tried to break them up
6-- loved four
5 was my least favorite number so he never got a pair.
7--loved 8
8--loved 7
9--lonely spinster
10-loud, fun, outgoing. 9's sister.
I did the same with colors.

When my sister was a baby everyone was trying to teach her to talk. My mother would always say she "shit" her diaper when she would have to change her. So one day when my sister dirtied her diaper I screamed, "Hey mom she shit her diaper!" And of course me being the big sister and her always looking up to me she had to copy my word. And the first word that came out of my little sister's mouth was shit. For awhile that was the only word she would say. And of course I couldn't understand why I would get in trouble for it and not her.

I used to believe…

When I was 9, I used to believe telling somebody they were buff was a cuss word. Considering I heard it on television and had no idea what they were talking about, 6 years later, it's kind of funny.

I used to believe…

When I was small I would watch adults talk, and they would often use their hands to make gestures while they were talking. I thought those gestures were like a second language that adults used simultaneously while speaking. I kept wondering when they were going to teach us that language in school.

I used to believe…

When I was small I used to watch a lot of PBS shows, and at the end they always say, "This program was brought to you by..." and then list funders. They would always say that part really fast, so I thought that "broughtoyouby" was a single word. Never could figure out what it meant.
