When i was very young I thought words in other language are just encoded and you have to know what letter stands for what letter.

Like "hallo" in German means "hello" so in every German word a is replaced by e in English

When I was in second grade, I was in a combination second/third grade class. Of course we idolized the third graders--they were the grownup kids, they were cool. One day at recess, they told us that if you stuck your middle finger up, you would promptly die and go to Hell. That didn't sound like a lot of fun.

When we were on vacation, I tripped and cut my middle finger. When my mom tried to get me to hold just that one up so she could put the band-aid on, I started screaming and crying and telling her I wanted to go to heaven.

When I was really little, maybe three or so, I got really into musicals. (What little kid doesn't like movies where everybody sings and dances the day away?) Anyways, one of my favorites was Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, but, being three, my words never really came out very well, so whenever I tried to sing along to the song, it came out "Shitty Shitty Bad Bad". When my mother told me that "Shit" was a bad word, I somehow pieced together that the entire song was about not saying bad words.

At some point, we were at the mall and some random group of teenagers started cussing. Imagine everybody's surprise when I let go of my mother's hand, strode over to the group and began my rendition of "Shitty Shitty Bad Bad".

I used to be afraid of saying "ax" because it sounded so similar to the a word, I thought if I said it, I'd get in trouble.

I heard this one from my friend recently. She has a five year old girl named Lola. Lola overheard my friend talking about her step daughter and how she had to go "away for awhile" because she had " a lot of issues". Lola promptly went upstairs where the stepdaughter was packing and when she was finished Lola told her not to forget to pack her issues.

I once was at a friend's house and we were going to go to the grocery store. So we were perusing the ads and reading the big deals on food for the day. It was that day when I first realized that meat was not sold in units known as "libs", as my friend's father calmly explained to me. In fact, "lbs." was short for pounds (and I still don't understand why).

I used to believe that "human beings" were called "human beans" and I always pictured big green beans getting on a plane!

I used to call a barbeque a "bag-of-poo" up untill I was 10. Still makes me smile when I say it :)

Every day my Grandma would sit down with the Bible and my Mom, Grandpa and I would sit around her on the floor. She was older and when she looked down to read it looked like she would close her eyes, so I always thought you had to close your eyes when you read.

When I was little I just learned how to spell pizza, so I would always spell pizza. One day we passed bye a plaza and for like four years i thought they spelt pizza wrong.

When I Was 5 Or 6, I thought that saying curse words was really funny. I heard them from my parents and I learned most of them. I knew I couldn't say them around my parents or I would get in trouble so I did something really stupid. I would run around this circle of my kitchen, living room, and front room. When I would go through the front room I would say every swear word I knew really fast and then laugh hysterically when I ran through the other two rooms while my parents would be really confused. I would do this on average about 30 times!

Back when my brother was about 7 or 8 he was playing "horse" out in the yard with his friend in our basketball net. Once his friend had missed three shots and had gotten, H, O and R, my brother exclaimed to my mother "Look! He's a hor!" (pronouncing it as whore)

my mother got embarassed and asked what it meant...after realizing it was just the game, she never said anything else

When I was first learning how to read, those Johnson & Johnson Baby Shampoo commercials used to be on all the time. At the end of it where it says, "No more tears!" I used to read it and think it was "No more tears!" like the tear you get in a piece of paper.

When I was little, I used to give the numbers personalities.
1 had two personalities - he was either a bit mean and didn't talk much to the other numbers; or he was a very talkative, funny number who liked to joke around.
2 was male, and was sensible and stopped the other numbers from fighting.
3 was a sweet little girl who liked to dance.
4 was a male toddler who ate baby food and picked his nose.
5 was male, and always liked to party and have fun.
6 was female, and was more serious that the other numbers.
7 was male, and was a really kind number who got along with every number. He liked to joke around a lot.
8 was a fat boy who liked to eat food all the time (maybe because 8 sounds like 'ate')
9 was a beautiful lady who was really powerful and was looked up to by all the other numbers. She was also very kind, and was friends with 7.
10 was female, and was a kind old lady who took care of the other numbers.

I used to think "farce" was a swear-word - well when you think about it it sounds like a cross "fart" and "arse" so I guess that's why I thought that

When I was little and just learning to write, I thought that you could put as many lines as you wanted on a capital E. Therefore, I used to make E's with 10 or more lines coming off of them. My mom still has some of my early E's.

I used to believe that the sound that we say animals make in English could be translated into other languages, and that's what animals would say in that country.
So, for example cows in France wouldn't say "moo", they would say whatever "moo" meant in France.

My niece was so proud of my new puppy and announced that he was "very HAVE." When I asked her what seh meant by that she said "You know, he is BEing very HAVE." Apparently she thought have was a verb and you had to be doing it.
