I used to think that when you got a foreign language option for something, like if a list of instructions were written in English, French, Polish, and German, for instance, then the foreign ones besides English were just there randomly, rather than being languages that people would be speaking if they were using the product!

Stereotypically, I used to think that all Indians used the phrase 'oh my God' in just about every sentence.

I was little and saw a movie that involved a girl falling into a river. A man exclaimed, "The current is taking her!" and me, being five or six and never having heard of currents, thought he was saying "currant" like blackcurrant.

When I was five or six, I was watching TV (I think it was "The Simpsons") and a character mentioned a piece of paper but I misheard and thought she (I'm pretty sure it was a woman) said, "piece of *vapour*".

When I was younger, I thought the word vinegar was the same as the word vagina, and in year 5, we had a TV crew come to our school, to do a documentary on school dinners, and I said into the microphone, which was turned up quite loud 'well I usually have ketchup or mayonnaise on my fries, but my older brother, in high school, prefers vagina with his'. Needless to say, that part was obviously deleted.

This is sad because I have Scottish ancestry from my paternal grandfather’s side. I used to believe Scottish was a language. I didn’t think British, Kiwi, Aussie or Canadian English were languages though.

I thought the word lackadaisical was something to do with lacking daisies.

I used to think algebra was putting letters in place of numbers, and doing sums with them. So, for instance, A is 1, B is 2 and C is 3 and so on.

I used to believe that when people would say "pick a number between 1 and 10" you were supposed to pick the number exactly between them. I would of course always pick 5, and be confused when I was wrong.

For some reason, I've always imagined certain numbers represented by certain colours:

1-Blue
2-Yellow
3-Green
4-Blue
5-Orange
6-Not sure
7-Pink
8-Red
9-Purple

Maybe it's something to do with the nine planets being colours, although none of them is pink, although people say 7 is a lucky number, because there is something sort of 'pretty' about it, so it makes sense that 7 is the pink and girly number.

I thought that "Oh, the humanity!" was an exclamation meant for pointing out that something was very humanlike.

I used to think Russians had surnames ending with ski because of the skiing they do in Siberia.
