I used to believe when someone said "...as far as the eye can see...", that they were speaking of the Ican Sea. I also believed that the Ican Sea was somewhere in Europe. So, it's pretty far away (at least from where I was).

I had a high school English teacher who often referred to the novel, Don Quixote. The way she pronounced it, I thought she was saying something like "Donkey Hotie". I wasn't sure just what word sounded like "Hotie", but I thought I heard the "Donkey" part quite clearly. It was later in college that I learned of the actual "Don Quixote", seeing its name in print, but even then I didn't immediately connect it with what that high school teacher spoke of. Some tiem later I finally realized that she'd been saying "Don Quixote", and not anything with "Donkey" in it.

When I was younger I had this book on how to speak arabic. In the book it had the english alphabet and what letters they would be in arabic along with how to say that letter. Using an english word like "cat" I would go to the book, look up the "c", "a", and "t" and then put the arabic letters and how they sounded for that. I would then go to my step-dad who speaks arabic and speak in this sad made up language. He would look at me like I was crazy. One day he asked what I was doing. I said I was speaking arabic. I explained to him how I had got the sentance. He spent at least five minutes strait laughing.

My younger sister saw South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut when she was 4 years old. As most of you know, that movie was VERY, VERY profane. Being only four and believing that animated movies were kid movies, she must of thought all the swear words they said in that movie weren't really bad. So...you can see what happened. Oh God, you should of seen my mom when she caught her singing "Uncle F***er".

When my brother was little, he used to get his sounds mixed up (specifically "sma" and "fa"). On a visit with a Doctor, he decided to have a tantrum in the very busy waiting room. Mum gave him a stern talking to and the threat of a smack at which point he dramatically sheilded himself and, much to the horror of the other paitients (especially my mother), cried out "Don't fuck me, Mummy! Don't fuck me!"

When I was in 2rd grade a few friends and myself were stopped by a group of 6th graders and asked if we were homosexual or heterosexual. When my friends looked ro me for an answer I replied, homosexual because I figured 'home' is a good place to be.

I used to believe that if my favorite words were used by other people, the words would get all "used up" and I wouldn't be able to say them any more. My dog was named "Daisy" and I wouldn't let anyone else say her name.

I used to believe that 'amateur' was an extremely bad word.

I attended a Catholic school as a young kid, where we were made to attend weekly mass each Tuesday. The priest was a nice Vietnamese man, but whenever he would say "Jesus Christ", I always thought he was saying "Cheetah Cry". Mentioning this years later to an old school buddy, he admitted that he had thought the same thing!

When I was in kindergarten the teacher would tell us to "make sure to color inside the lines" but until I was in about 2nd grade I always thought she said "color inside the lions." I was always very confused, where were the lions?! Coloring was a tad scary for me then...I thought a lion would pop out.

When I was little, my mom had this typewriter and I believed that I could just press random buttons and it would form a story. I would type a bunch of jibberish and then go to my mom and ask her what it meant she said nothing, I did it again and asked her what it meant: nothing, I figured out by about the fifteenth time that you had to try to write a story

Somehow, i used to be sure that Edgar Allen Poe wrote Winnie the Pooh, and whenever people talked about his work being so depresing, I would think "What are they talking about, he wrote Winnie the Pooh!"
