When I was about four I was OBSESSED with Egypt for some reason and I would never shut up about it. I remember saying I could speak Egyptian but it was really just random made-up nonsensical words but I kept saying it was Egyptian. I misheard "quiet" on a movie as "quegion" (pronounced like equation without the e) and I kept saying "quegion" was the Egyptian word for "quiet."

when i was in 5th grade i was in catholic school. well we were allowed to bring toys to school, so this little 1st grader had these little "bionicle" robot things, and he was making them fight, w/ all the sound effects and everything. i rolled my eyes and said "bionicles are dumb" so this kid, he gasps and his eyes get real big as if i had just totally cussed him out. then he gets all teary eyed and runs to the teacher screamed (rather loudly) SHE SAID THE D WORD! lol ;)
i was on the school bus as a 3rd grader. a couple of 5th graders were giving each other the middle finger and i asked what it meant. Being 5th graders, they told me it meant "i love u". this caused complications with my dad....

When I was a little kid I was told by some religious person that swearing would make God put a curse on you, but if you were a child, God would forgive you, but when you got older and sweared, God would give you consequences. I believed then that if you cursed when you were over the age of ten, God would electricute you and you would die on the spot. :O However, if you were nine and under, he'd forgive you, but you'd be warned and watched for a long time.
I used to to mix up masturbation with Mastacation, so while at at a family dinner party I decided to show off my vocababulary and knowledge of a cows' digestive system. I sarted talking and said," ...Oh yes, did you know that after MASTURBATING its food teh food has to travel through 4 chambers...." Everybdy started laughing and my mum was mortified.
She wasnt too happy with me later when it sparked some interesting questions from my younger siblings later on...

One day I said "No, I don't want to go to school right now I want to go to school at three o'clock" and my mother said "But them school will be boring!" But I didn't know what "boring" meant, so I thought it meant that it would be raining (as in "pouring")!
I used to believe that the whole world uses my linguage (I am from Croatia). I used to believe that everyone think in croatian. :) And then translate it to their linguage. How stupid, ha? ;)

My boyfriend's great aunt told me a story about when he was a little boy. He was raised Catholic, and one day he went to Mass. When he got back, somebody asked him how he liked church, and he said that it was okay except for the fact that they made him cuss. Mystified, he was asked what he meant, and he replied, "They kept making me say, "Hell, Mary!" (Hail Mary)

This belief was caused by "A Christmas Story". Because Ralphie says "fudge" during the movie, I thought that fudge(when used in that way) was the real F-word for a while. I later found out from my friend's potty mouth older sister that this was not the case!

When I was younger, I used to think that just by saying any random word that one of those words was bound to be a real word in some country.

A variation on the substitution theme: my family moved to Japan from California when I was seven. In Japanese class, they handed out a pronunciation chart for Hiragana, so I thought if I wanted to write in Japanese I just had to use these new characters instead of the latin alphabet.
I used to believe that 100 plus 100 is 1000 as I couldn't figure that anything as large as 100 could NOT result in 1000!
I also forgot to mention that 9 was a guy. He had a crush on 8. (I'm remembering more and more about how I thought all numbers had personalities and love triangles)

When I was younger I thought that "exceptional" and "acceptable" meant the same thing, so when I was young and I tried really hard and the teacher whose class I got an A in their class (yes, I was young) said I was an "exceptional" student I was thinking he menat acceptable and wondered why getting an A was only acceptable and how much you'd have to do to get this teacher's respect.
