When I was in kindergarten we got a new computer (windows 3.1 primitve by todays standards) anyway, it came with a gane tha thad mario in it, although, I can't remember what the game was. Anyway, once, when I was learning to read, I was sitting next to my older brother while he did somethign on the computer, while I tried to read the word "Mario" on the floppy disk that game came on. Well, needless to say, I falied and instead said, somehow managed to say "Mubbery" (like "rubbery" or "srubbery") instead. So, my brother instantly burst out laughing and he told my other older brother (who just got a new cat) and he liked it...so they named the cat "Mubbery". That cat lived for years and peopel would always wonder why on Gods green Earth why anyone would name a cat such a stupid word. I have a strange family.......

When listening to CasyKasem on America's Top 40 while growing up, I thought he always talked about such-and-such band's 'day view' album. It wasn't until my 9th grade English class that I learned d-e-b-u-t was not pronounce dee-BUTT, but in fact day-BEW, and that it wasn't a 'day view album' but a 'debut album.'

Ugh.

I used to read the dictionary. (I was a bookworm as a little kid.) One day I came across "orgy" and wouldn't you know it, I had one of those prudish dictionaries that for some words didn't go into much detail... it said something about wild parties, unrestrained, etc. and so I took it to mean just what the dictionary said - that's what the book's for, right?

O, the look on my poor dad's face when, in a particularly happy unrestrained moment of glee, his 6 yr old daughter shouted out, "let's have an orgy!"

In preschool, when someone corrected my spelling, I thought that they were just giving me another way to spell a word, and I could use either that way or my way. Some of these words were dolfin/dolphin, weel/wheel, and jun/june.

I remember one time my friend said "What's the tille?" and I asked him what it meant, and he said that 'tille' meant 'time' and I assumed it was just a more grown up word. He used to say it all the time.

I never heard anyone else ever say it so one time I asked him where he got the word from. He said, "it's French .... Quel est le tille? .... it means 'what is the time?' "

I was 11 and had started French by then. He felt a bit stupid when I told him it was "Quelle heure est-il ?" (What hour is it ?)

I used to think that the mangled abridgement HAZCHEM was German for "Danger" as it appeared next to the word on the sign.

For some reason, in the book "The Restraunt at the end of the Galaxy" (sequel to "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy), I thought until pretty recently (I'm 16) that Trillian, the female in the book, was a giant centipede. heh...

I was always very precocious, even at swearing, not like one girl I offended in the seventh grade. She caught up to me on the play ground one day and screamed at me in a fit of rage, "Amanda, I want to f*** you!" I was taken aback, but I scathingly told her that I only like boys. She blushed and stammered "I - I mean, I hope somebody else f***s you!" I said, "Thanks, I'd like that someday." She was speechless at this point, so I offered " did you mean 'f*** you"?" She said yes and slouched away humiliated. My friends and I had a great laugh after that.

I used to pronounce choir as chore. It was until my 5th grade teacher corrected me when the whole class was reading the passage together. And the worst thing was, I was sitting right in front of my teacher the whole time. Imagine how embarrassing it was when she had to peer out from under her book and correct me in front of everyone.

I used to think that the jokes ... to screw in a light bult ment that that the people actually had to SCREW inside the lightbulb. I've thought this for many many years.

I used to believe the word "relax" wasn't a real word until I turned 16 after I found this word in the dictionary. I read a newspaper when I was about 6 and I asked my mom to define "relax", she said it was not a word at all and it was just a total slang. I suppose she was just too lazy to define.

One time I got in trouble for picking up a phone without asking at my grandmother's house. She yelled at me and said," You need to ask for permission before playing with things!"
I had no idea what "permission" was. I figured that it was some kind of lotion. I thought ," Why would I need lotion to play with something?"
