One day I was talking to my dad about when people get kicked out of their house. I was trying to think of the word "Eviction Notice"but instead i said, "erection notice" My dad told me to never say that word again and he never told me why. A few years later I rwalized what it meant. Hehe... I'm only human!

When I was about 3 or 4, I used to get "I" and "you" the wrong way round. I would say "you" when I meant myself and "I" when I meant someone else. I was using the logic that other people referred to me as "you" and to themselves as "I", so therefore I should refer to myself as "you" and to them as "I". For example, at the dinner table I would say to my Mum "You want some of mine" when I meant "I want some of yours".

I used to think that cattle was a kind of kettle, because it was a similar sounding word. I had a recurring dream about my parents filling the kettle and saying it was the cattle, and it made a funny noise, something like "Voontoom, voontoom, voontoom". The Christmas carol "Away in a manger" has a verse which says "The cattle are lowing and the baby awakes, but little Lord Jesus no crying he makes". I thought that meant the kettles are whistling.

I used to think that the word "treefeller" was actually "treefella" and it was a little fella who did something with trees. I wasn't sure what though.

When I was little I never understood why adults liked to read. I thought that all the read were information books or dictionary/thesaurus... I never knew they actually had fiction books! Not until I was about 10!

My parents had a lot of self-help, how-to, historical, and factual books when I was a kid. I used to think that authors didn't write stories for adults, and that when I grew up, I'd have to read boring stuff about gardening and wars.

I thought if you said a swear word the police would track you down and arrest you but if you said 'oh my goodness' after the swear word that it would take it back.

In sixth grade,I didnt know the difference in spelling between sex and six. One day Mum bought me a new book and she let me write my name and grade on it.
well it so happened that I wrote sex instead of six on the grade space and she saw it one day.
I dont remember the exact words she said but it felt so embarassing cuz I was 12.

I am German and when I was about 6 or 7 I learned a few English words like mom and dad (my first complete sentence was daddy go to bed)-well besides the point. For a very long time I believed that German was the only correct way of saying anything and foreign languages were just for people who were to stupid to learn German...I gave up that believe when I told my dad about a week after I first had that though....he actually kinda got mad at me.

In first grade, the teacher was talking about how we should never take the things in our life for granted. I thouhgt she said take them for "granite", so i was like, I'm not gonna take things for granite-or consider them to be nothing more than a worthless piece of rock.

my older sister (10 years older) told me when I was little that you were only allowed so many words in your lifetime, and if I kept talking the way I was I would run out before I even started school. I guess I was so quiet for a couple days until my mom figured out I wasn't talking and asked me why. I was still worried about it so for the longest time I didn't speak unless I had to.

When I was little I misheard people when they said deaf. I thought they said 'Death'. I knew that it meant someone who couldn't hear though. So when ever my friends couldn't hear me I said "Are you death? I SAID --------"
Well I did this to a teacher. who kindly corrected me.

Every year the older kids in my school would give a little play, and all the younger kids would come in and watch. Well, the teacher called it a matennae (sp?) and i thought that she said Matt & A. Like the name of the show was that, and Matt & A (like for Amanda or Amy) were the stars. I was so excited, because i knew a boy named matt, who was older. My name starts with an A and i was hoping that they would have the same play later when i was older so i could be the A in Matt & A. He wasn't even in the play!! I was so confused. I didn't figure it out for 5 years what a matennae was

When I was in kindergarten one day we were learning about numbers and we were counting. It seemed like forever that we were counting outloud so I asked my friend "when do numbers stop?". She told me that "they never end!". And I couldn't understand that at all so I thought she was just nuts and was that obsessed with numbers!

When I went to a day-care center they showed the Disney Movie "Hercules" and there's a part where the bad guy calls him "Jerkules" instead and my friend told me that it was a bad word so I would always giggle whenever they said it in the movie.
