After my first day at kindergarden I told my Mother that I was not going back anymore. When asked why I told her that the teacher wanted me to make number one and number two on the paper and that was nasty. I am 75 and still hear about that from family members.

Back in elementary school, our school song would start: "Emerson, Emerson, E-M-E-R-S-O-N," and so on. As a kindergardener, I had no idea how to spell the school name, so I would choose random letters to go in that part, such as "E-V-R-T-N-P-N" until I gathered up enough courage against sounding stupid to ask how it was really spelled.

When I Was a little kid, 3 or 4, I thought whenever I asked my mom somethinglike, "do you mind if I have ice cream?" a she said, "Yes I do mind", it meant Yes, you can have some ice cream. That's why I was surprised when she took the bowl of ice cream away from me!

I used to believe that if someone from japan wrote something in japanese, It would look english to japanese people but japanese to everyone else

I once read an article in Readers Digest wherein a teenager referred to all Hispanics as "f..... Puerto Ricans". I did not understand that it was an edited swear word; I thought the person had started to say something rude, then changed his mind and simply said "Puerto Ricans". I thought it was very polite of him to stop himself from swearing, and also pretty funny that he didn't know not all Hispanics come from Puerto Rico.

When I was in elementary school, I had this strange affection for the letter "T", connected to a hatred for "S". "S" always comes before "T" in the alphabet and is a mean bully. "T" just sits next to "S" minding it's own business, but "S" shoves "T" around all the time. Stupid "S".

When I was two or three, I heard the term "human beings" and was convinced we were all "human beans". I didn't really understand how humans could be associated with beans, because green beans and lima beans don't look anything like humans.

When I was in third grade, and I had my cousins visiting us, and my oldest cousin, who was 12, told me that The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien would be too hard for me to read.(I was a very good reader.)My retort was that I had read Harry Potter books. I thought if you had read Harry Potter, you could read anything. Amazingly, after my cousins were gone,I read The Hobbit.

When I was in kindergarten, I asked my teaker why there were two "N's" in the alphabet (as in n o p... w x y N z)... My Mom would get the giggles when I asked her so bad, she finally said "Ask your teacher" When I did, I was disappointed to hear that it was AND, not a second N. To this day, I refuse to say and before Z, cause it's not meant to be there. LOL

I thought if a person writes WAY too much then he will never write ever again. I always save my handwriting power until needed. I even refused to write notes during classes then my teacher made me to write sentences on the board 100 times and I was SO worried that I will never write again from it!

Coming to the states when I was four, I thought English was jibberish. So people always talked "jibbierish" so I joined in. Man I must have looked dumb.

When I was about 5 or 6, I would always wear bike shorts when I wore skirts, because I get paranoid about things pretty easily. Well, I also liked to use big words (to which I rarely knew the definition of) to make me sound smart. I'd recently heard the word 'obsessed,' but didn't know what it meant. One night, my babysitter came over. She noted the biker shorts I had on, to which I replied "Well, I'm obsessed with people seeing my underwear." She just sat there and stared...

When I was little, I would see calendars that had the letters "SMTWTFS" on the top. Whenever I saw these calendars, I figured that SMTWTFS, one word, was a company that made calendars, and not an abbreviation for the days of the week. One day I said to my mom, "Wow Mummy, smitwiffs must be a really big company! They make calendars EVERYWHERE!" My mum is still laughing to this day.

When I was a kid in New Hampshire, I used to believe that the state motto (which was on all the license plats), "Live Free or Die" was not a statement of resolve, but an enforced requirement. I spent some time concerned that I might not be living free enough.
