I used to believe…

When I was in the 3rd grade.I was told that if you say "Bloody mary" 3 times in a pitch black bathroom Bloody mary would appear.

So I told my mom and she dragged me in the bathroom and said bloody mary 3 times and nothing happened.

I used to be really freaked out of going into bathrooms with circle mirrors ever since I heard that story about Bloody Mary! I also used to have nightmeres about her. Now I'm not really sure what to belive! I know it's made-up, but, I don't know...

When I was in 6th grade, I had already had a multitude of imaginary friends. For some reason, my friends Katie, Lynne and I decided to have imaginary children. Mine was a little boy named Harvey (I'd just seen the play about the invisible bunny) and we carried them around everywhere, just like we would real children. I'm sure our teacher thought it was mighty strange that the three of us walked around with our hips stuck out like we were carrying something when there wasn't really anything there.

OK, I've seen others who gave personalities to numbers. I gave personalities to my crayons, and by extension, colors in general. Purple (and if available, pink) were the lovely maidens. Red and blue were the cute guys fighting over purple. Green was a friend of the "boys." Yellow was the average-looking friend of the "girls." When I got bored in class, I'd sit and create whole stories in my head, moving the crayons around my desk accordingly.

And I was in the gifted program!

I caught my dad putting money under my pillow when I lost a tooth. I asked him if he was the tooth fairy and he told me no, he was the Good Wood Fairy, and it was his job to try and steal the money that the tooth fairy left, but since I woke up, I got to keep my tooth money. After that, I always made sure to get up early after I lost a tooth to give the Good Wood Fairy less time to steal my money.

For most of my life, my houses never had chimneys. I asked my brother How Santa Claus would get into our house.(i was 7). He said that Santa walks through walls. I didn't really believe that. But what made me believe, is that on Christmas Day, I saw a crack in the wall tht i never noticed before!

When we were little...my cousin used to think that when we drove over cattle guards, there were monsters living under there and the sound they made was the monster telling us to leave. He was cute!

I used to believe…

When I was about 6, I was absolutely terrified of The Things That Go Bump In the Night, which were (in my mind) an entire race of monsters and boogiemen and ghosts and demons and the like. So I deliberately made up an imaginary friend named Midoon (MIDnight-nOON) who would protect me from the dark monsters. He was the actual, real Prince of the Night, but the Things had stolen it from him and he had to defeat them all to get it back.

As a child, around christmas time, my parents and older siblings had what they called "elf eyes". This gave them the power to see Santa's elfs that were stationed around the house to make sure we were acting properly. They would even go as far as to discuss the clothing the elves were wearing. Once I learned the truth about Santa, I got my "elf eyes" and was allowed to make up all the stuff I wanted to taunt my younger sister with. I can't wait to start this tradition with my kids.

I live in a double story house and our stairs aren't solid, so you can look through the gaps down at the floor below..When I was little I was terrified of a monster sticking its hand out between the stairs and grabbing me. So I used to run up the stairs and never look back...I still do it

My dad told me that my Grandmother saw a UFO and the Air Force came out to speak with her. About 10 years after she died I brought the subject back up and my dad looked at me like I was crazy.

hall of fame

I believed that I was the smartest five-year old because I knew that Santa was real and the Easter Bunny was fake!

When I was about 3 years old I started to get worried about monsters for the first time. My father just up and told me they "were make-believe" and so I had nothing to worry about. Problem was I had no idea what that meant. I had never heard the term before. Closest thing I understood that as, was that monsters "wore maple-leafs." So all he did was confirm my ideas that monsters were real AND that for some reason they wore maple-leafs. I was checking for monsters for years because my dad had used that phrase instead of saying they were just "pretend"...

When I was about 3 or 4 years old, I believed that there was a family of tiny people living under the chest of drawers. It was a family: the father, Hunkle Bunkle; the mother, Bake-a-cake; and the children, the Oochie-Coochies. Yes, those were the names I made up for them. I remember showing my sister pieces of fuzz under the chest of drawers, and telling her which member of the family each one was. She believed me, but that's OK because she was only 5 or six.

I used to beleive that the tooth Fairy was off on monday nights, turns out my mom didnt have time to change the tooth for money that night lol
from that day on i never put a tooth out on a monday LOL

When I was about 2 or 3 me and my sister both had imaginary friends my friend was named John-boy and hers was named Dandy-girl and my sister and I used to argue about which of our friends was cooler or better at sports or smarter etc. And I remember actually getting into a fist fight over our friends and to this day she still has a scar on her leg from me trying to cut her leg off with a plastic-play knife.

Back when I was a little guy, around 5 or 6, I was dead afraid of monsters and whatnot. I had about 50 stuffed animals, I stuffed them into my bed believing that monsters didn't like to eat fat kids. Now that I think about I laugh.

I used to believe…

When I was younger, I always hid under my blankets the whole night because I beleaved in Vampires...And I also slept on the other side of the bed farthest to the wall because I beleaved monsters where down there because it was so cold..

My grandfather used to be a mall santa in Brasil, and quite famous actually in the town he was from. So each year around December in his town, it would be a whole deal when Christmastime began, bc they would transport my grandfather by helicopter to the mall where many fans awaited his arrival before he took his place in the mall. There were often newspaper clippings and such about him as well. His birthday was properly December 25th as well. (or at least I still believe that? i should check with mom again!)

Either way, I believed for many years that my grandfather was the one and only real Santa, and that he travelled the world over by the helicopter, and had keys to everyone's houses, including ours. All those other mall santas and such were just helpers and that the whole reindeer bit was just bc it sounded cool but everyone knows reindeer can't fly.
I also used to kindly explain to everyone at school that Santa was actually my grandfather and the whole deal.

Anyhow... upon discovering all my presents in my parents room unwrapped before christmas as a kid, i asked my mom for the hard truth, especially hearing kids at school begin to say santa doesn't exist. and i found out and i cried and cried.

Oh well... If I can't be related to Santa, at least I was related to someone people thought of as Santa. and that's pretty cool :)
