I used to believe that Santa stayed in your chimney all year, and if you went outside and didnt see smoke, it meant he was fat, and if you did, he got skinnier. It made sense to me, considering we always went to picnics in the summer, and the fireplace was never lit in the summer, so I figured Santa ate a lot of left overs from the picnics. But, in the winter, he stopped eating so he could eat all the cookies, which was when the fireplace was always lit because it was cold.

I used to believe…
There was a tiger in the hall and I had to get rid of it by huffing and puffing so that I could go to the toilet.
I'm sure the babysitters used to wonder why the 3 year old kid they were watching puffed away while toddling up the hallway.

When I was little we lived on a farm. One warm spring day our beagle brought home a rabbit. I ran into the house sobbing, "Mommy, mommy, mommy, Peanut(the dog) killed the Easter Bunny!!!!

When I was eight, I had a few more imaginary friends.
"Angel" was a comforting tiny angel girl whom I made up when my second-grade teacher yelled at me for misspelling a word, and I was trying not to cry. Angel either sat on my shoulder or flew around my head, telling me what to do in a bad situation. Sometimes, she'd have to go back to Heaven for her "occasional angel IQ test" and she'd mail me little post cards and letters (which I drew and showed to Papaw). Angel looked just like the first ghost in that cartoon Christmas Carol movie with Mr. Magoo.
Another one was "Maria". She was a Hispanic lady that lived within the pages of my math textbook. She'd always talk to me, tell me silly stories about "back home in New York" or bounce around and hang off of the letters and numbers. She also had a daughter, Rita, but I rarely saw her because she was a loner. Oddly enough, the two women were actually made up when I saw two photos in the textbook.
Then, there was Zelda (from the Sabrina the Teenage Witch comics) and Obi-Wan Kenobe. They were madly in love and were always kissing. Obi-Wan also helped care for Zelda's newborn baby boy from a previous marriage (the baby never grew any older; Zelda's previous hubby died in a plane crash). Then, Zelda and Obi-Wan were able to get married when Obi-Wan got a job in a Ragtime band and made a million dollars. I was the flower girl, the vacuum cleaner was the preacher, and various toys were the guests. Can you say, "Soap Opera"?
The last one was my "army" of toys. I had six or seven little toys, including a foot-tall plastic anime bendable dragon thing, a Barbie doll, and a little baby pegasus doll from Hercules. The army was responsible for going into rebellious battle with the grown ups. I can't tell you how many times I shut the kitchen door and screamed at the top of my lungs at the others, while pretending it was General Dragon. General Dragon and General Barbie had an attitude problem and had a slight infatuation with each other, while Pegasus was the perfect little soldeir everyone hated.
One more imaginary team I can remember took place when I was about ten or eleven. I created a cajun/dixie/New Orleans-type band on a shelf on my mom's deck. We were called "The Berts", because each of our names ended in "-bert". There was Jessbert (me), Herbert, Hobert, Bobbert and Billybert. Hobert and I were the singers, Herbert played banjo, Bobbert played the trombone and/or saxophone and Billbert played the harmonica and/or the snare drum. The other band members were toys, by the way.
Wait, I take that back. I also named some of my mom's plants. I can clearly remember a pink vinca flower named Rita (love that name!) and a tomato named Jeremy. They were just like Zelda and Obi-Wan!
Even today, all of these little imaginary beings still live in my mind, coming out every-once-and-a-while to say hello.

I don't know where I got this from but for a while I thought that aliens were really God.

For some reason, I watched the movie "The Blob" (the original verison) when I was young. The scene at the beauty salon scared me half to death. We did not have a shower in our home (only a bathtub) and so had to wash our hair in the sink. I kept waiting for the Blob to come up out of the sink drain and get me, so I washed my hair as quickly as possible. I would have won world records for the fastest hair-washing.

When I was little, i used to believe that the tooth fairy had little bity colorful helpers that only came around while I was asleep. One night, when i lost a tooth, i decided to sleep on the couch so that i didnt miss a thing. I ended up falling asleep and having a dream about the little fairy helpers, so when i awoke in the morning, i was fully convinced that i had wittnessed them. of course now i know it was only a dream.

When I was young we had a wood stove in the living room, but one year my dad wanted to move it outside. I was upset and asked my parents, "How is Santa goign to get in the house now?" My dad quickly told me Santa would use the dryer vent, and I believed him. So after that I pictured Santa entering and leaving through the dryer.
I used to belive the Gollum from the Lord of The Rings lived underneath my house, and at night he would scratch on the bottom of our wood floors because he was hungry.
I believed that an aunt was a witch. Whenever she came to visit she was always dressed in black. Later, when she moved closer to us & purchased a restaurant, she became mad at her husband (my uncle-in-law) and raised her hands up in a hexing stance & growled. I was sure she was a witch! I was about 7 years old.

My brother and I shared a room when we were kids, and both of us were afraid of vampires (specifically, Dracula). We decided that if we slept not only under the blankets, but with a teddy bear (or other stuffed animal) across our necks, Dracula could not bite us.
I used to read in bed and the light from the lightbulb would leave the imprint on my eyes. only i thought that this was ghosts coming out from the lightbulb and into my eyes. and since my mum couldn't see them when i got her to look i figured they must have already "got" her :S

As a young boy, I was told by my parents that a type of ghost roamed the streets at night. This ghost was split in half at the waist. The upper part would roam the streets looking for victims and the only way to stop him is to find the lower half and pour salt so that he could not reconnect. I always carried salt!

My sister used to get me up in the middle of the night to watch movies like the Crawling Eye, King Kong, and a whole slew of scary movies on television, as a small child, I thought that they were all REAL. At the age of six, I figured that she was telling me the truth about them being real, along with Superman, Gorgo and Godzilla. As a young child this influenced me into learning about dinosurs and by the time I was in the second grade, I knew pretty much all about em, but I still had several weeks of nightmares that kept me awake at night.

After telling a vampire story, my uncle explained to me that they bite you on the neck, illistrating by placing 2 fingers on the left side of his neck. I knew vampires were make-believe, but just in case, I always slept on my left side; & just in case they might go for the right side of the neck, I always pulled the sheet up over my neck. I was in my early 30s before I could sleep without something covering my neck; I still sleep on my left side!

when i was six, i had dreams about a monster named the treacherous "Pink Monster"!! I would wake up crying because I had dreams about a pink monster shaped like a hershey kiss with razor sharp teeth! i dreamed that i was in the shower, and the water turned pink! all of a sudden, the pink water turned formed a glob and started to chase me! every night, i would refuse to take my shower, and my parents had to force me to take them! Even now, i get freaked out when i see a hershey kiss shaped shadow on the wall outside my doorway!!

When I was little (in elementary school). My mother used to wake me up every morning. I always went back to sleep. For some reason I thought I had a robot that was a perfect copy of me and could go to school for me. To me yesterday never happened and it was all a sort of dream.
Every morning I still wish that was true.
I used to believe that Santa would come and get me becuase the line "he knows when your a sleeping, he knows when your awake, he knows if you've been bad or good..." I also though santa was a FBI agent
