once when i lost a tooth when i was little, i decided that I wanted to keep it instead of getting some money. i thought about how teeth were so important, and thats why i wanted to keep the tooth. anyway, i went to my mom and she helped me write a letter to the tooth fairy. i wrote it in my best handwriting too.
I had a friend named Herman. He was, looking back at him, a shapeshifter. He was a Casper-like ghost, or an invisible flea that rode on my shoulder, or a disembodied presence, or a voice in my head, or some combination of them stacked on each other, so they were all Herman at the same time. He was an adviser, and another point of view to consider. Sometimes he was just there, not doing or saying anything, just, I somehow knew, enjoying himself. One day, he didn't say anything, but instead was getting ready to go away. I got very mad, and told him to go ahead and go. He did, and did not look back. I was sad for a while, but I got over it.
I thought when you said "Bloody Mary" three times in a dark bathroom and then looked in the mirror, you would see the evil alternate version of virgin mary, who had killed the baby jesus. I imagined her with long black hair, red glowing eyes, holding a bloody dead baby with a bloody knife in the other hand and smiling. Once when I was six, me and a friend tried it in the school bathroom, turning on the lights and saying it. We had said it three times and then all the sudden the bathroom door opened and a female teacher walked in. We saw her reflection in the mirror, knew it was Bloody Mary appearing, and ran away screaming. We never thought it would really work.
I was afraid to ever walk into a dark bathroom until I was about 10 and told someone and they explained that Mary did not have an evil twin who killed baby Jesus. They never told me where bloody mary came from though, and to this day I am not quite sure who Bloody Mary is... but i have my suspicions.

When I was young the scariest thing ever was bloody mary, the devils sister! Supposedly, if you said her name 10 times in front of a mirror in the dark, she would then appear in the mirror! Needless to say, I never did this because I was scared to death. To this day, I will not look at a mirror in the dark, and refuse to have one in my room.

My mother told me that if I didn't keep my feet covered with the blankets when I slept witches would come from under the bed and eat my feet off. To this day I need something covering my feet at night ( even in summer )...ta Mum

When I was 3-4, I believed that my manners (which my mother was always telling me to "watch") were a community of tiny people who lived in my tummy. There was a whole little town in there, with a mayor named Mary Manner and lots of other citizens, whose first names all started with M. For some reason it was important that they be kept secret, though. One Thanksgiving my mom made a really big deal about how important it was that I watch my manners. She found me in the bathroom, putting a bandaid over my navel to keep the Manners from escaping. Of course she laughed herself silly, but she didn't try to convince me that they weren't real. Even so, I lost my belief soon afterward.

When I was little, I thought my sister and parents were really aliens in disguise and they had a zipper in the back of them to change into their real selves at night. For this reason I used to sneak up on my sister and yell "I CAUGHT YOU" only to find her in her human skin.

I believed in King Kong until last year. By the way - I'm 19!
I used to think that the cow on the Elmer's Glue was a monster. I was afraid of the Elmer's Glue Monster and tried to use different glue bottles. I still have a sneaking suspicion that it's not really a cow...
i remember once my 4 year old brother lost a tooth, my mum told him to put his tooth under the pillow for the tooth fairy. He said to my mum 'oh mum make sure you let the tooth fairy know i want paper money' When he woke up the next morning with $5 i realised that you had to request the amount you wanted from the tooth fairy. I felt so stupid because i was probably half way through my baby teeth and had missed out on all this potential cash!
I used to go around tapping on tree trunks when I was little because I believed that if I could just find the right one, I would knock on the door that led to fairyland. It amused my parents, but they never took away my belief. It faded away on its own.
I was just reminicing about my imaginary friend that I had from about age 4 to age 5. His name was Cockle The Funger and he was a hobo. I remeber he would appear and we would laugh together and share lunch that he would unwrap from his polka-dot hankerchief that he carried on the end of a long stick. I remember one day he left to go and sit in the sun drenched rafters of an old dusty barn, to whistle. I never saw him again.

When I was 7 I saw a vampire movie, which led to my wearing a winter scarf tied around my throat every night so I wouldn't get bitten in my sleep. I waited until my parents shut off my light and I was alone, and tied that sucker on! It's a wonder I never strangled myself!

On my 5th birthday, my parents took me to see Santa. He gave me a balloon, and told me to leave it out for Santa to blow up on Christmas Eve. Sure enough, it was blown up. My parents were estatic (very bad acting), but they didn't know I had seen the thread holding up Santa's beard. :(

When i was young, being Australian, i didn't believe in the easter bunny. I thought that the easter bunny was really an easter kangaroo dressed up!
I used to believe in vampires, and was afraid that they were going to suck my blood while I was sleeping. I figured out a way to keep this from happening! I pulled the blanket up and made sure it covered up my neck a lot. I still to this day sleep with the covers up on my neck and I'm almost 30! :)

When I was growing up, my baby sister was really gullible, especially when Daddy told her stuff. One Christmas Eve, we we're living in the country, and my dad jumped up, grabbed his shotgun, and ran outside. After hearing two shots, he came back inside, announcing, "That'll teach that fat old man to try to land his reindeer on my roof" Needless to say, Nancy ran screaming through the house, "Daddy shot Santa!!! Daddy shot Santa!!!" Mom looked at her and said, "Nancy, this is your Daddy your talking about."... She thought for a second, shrugged her shoulders and said "Oh, okay."
