When my grandmother told me that Christmas was "just around the corner," I ran out of the house and down to the corner expecting to see Santa and his reindeer. I didn't understand why everyone laughed at me when I told them my disappointment (wondering why grandma lied to me).

As I child I thought imaginary friends were real people that just couldn't be with you at the moment, so they sent themselves as invisible people.

When I was about 3-5, i really did believe in imaginary friends. One night, i was really, really, bored, so i decided to have a house party with my imaginary friends. I would open the door and welcome them to my home and then i turned on teh tv and pretended it was music and started dancing...ahhhh the innocence of youth!

When I was very young, I went on a vacation with my parents. There was a button in the hotel room, apparently to request room service.
My parents, in an attempt to prevent me from pressing the button, told me that it was a "Goblin Button"- and that if you should press it, the goblins will come.
To this day, I can remember staying awake throughout night, still as can be, just staring at the button! I was scared to death, truly believing that the goblins would storm the place, just with the touch of the button (which happened to be next to the bed! Ugh!). I was afraid of somehow rolling over in my sleep and accidentally pressing it.

When I was little, my mom would always tuck me in. And when i would put my ear to the pillow, i swore i could hear people moving around. I told my mom this, and she would alwyas say good night to me, and then whisper into my ear goodnight to the Litte people. I believed her until i was about 5...

When I was little I had a friend named Janine. We were convinced that there were ghosts everywhere, following us around. We'd go to the playground at my school on the weekend and run around trying to find ghosts. Once we went on the computer and searched for ghosts. One picture came up that was really small so we clicked on it to enlarge it. It came up really big, and I pissed myself I was so scared! I showed my mom the picture because she wanted to know why I was scared. SHe looked at it and burst out laughing. It was a picture of a bunch of guys dressed up in some rain coats. I haven't beleived in ghosts since.

When I was younger I hated the Easter Bunny. I always thought it was sooo weird to have a huge rabbit hopping down the street to bring me eggs. One year, I told my mom that there couldn't be any easter bunny because there weren't any bunny foot prints anywhere near our house, so she looked at me and said, "Well.. he wears boots." I spent the entire day looking for boot prints.. at least she tried.

I used to believe that there were barracudas under the docks at Chautauqua. (A counselor told me this when I was 5, to keep us from playing under the docks and being out of sight of the lifeguards.) To this day, I hesitate to go under a dock, and feel very uncomfortable there.

My mom used to call our house (when you were able to do that, remember?)while I was upstairs...she would change her voice and say she was Little Miss Muffet. I believed her. For weeks (or more?) she would call me pretending to be 'LMM'. I believed it was her and was excited to talk to her. I would always ask if she could come over to play with me...but she never could! For some reason, in my mind, I pictured her as this cartoon character-looking kid, not human. I thought that's how she really looked! I was crushed when I realized it was my MOM playing a trick on me! :o)

My father was a good pianist and even had his own dance band in the 1930s. In the days before TV he used to entertain me by playing boogie woogie. I never could understand why some of my friends were terrified of the boogie man. I couldn't imagine how anybody could be dumb enough to be afraid of a jazz pianist.

When I was little I didn't have a bedside lamp so when I was going to sleep I'd have to go to light switch beside the door and go back to my bed in the dark. Now this is all good and fine except I thought that when the light went off a vampire hid behind my door so as soon as I put the light off I ran to my bed (for some reason I thought once I was in bed I'd be safe). I thought this for years.. jeez, i was bloody scared every night for years - that can't be good!
