I was almost completely deaf by the time I was five, which made "Twas the Night before Christmas" difficult to understand, because I couldnt hear the story being told clearly. I actually believed that Santa and St Nicholas were two completely different people (partners, if you will). Yet, the only "Nicholas" that I had ever heard of was the character "Nicholas", from the television show "Eight is Enough". I actually believed for a couple of years that Santa rode around with that freaky little bastard with the god-awful bowl haircut, and he helped him deliver presents. Needless to say, I watched "Eight is Enough" every week, just to score brownie points with "St Nicholas". I was a very confused child.

From the time I was 3-8 I had an imaginary friend named Gwender who lived in my upstairs toilet, along with his whole family, whom I did not have a person relationship with. It was an insult to Gwender and his family to use said toilet, so I was forced to go downstairs to use the loo. I started telling people about Gwender and my mum got worried about the mental wellbeing of her oldest child. When asked about my "imaginary" friend, I simply stated he was invisible and only I had the ability to see him. Unfortunitely, after years of friendship, Gwender was killed when my mum put one of those pucks that turn the water blue into the toilet.

When my brother was younger he was convinced that there was a monkey who appeared on his dresser every morning and made fun of him. He used to run to my mom's room in tears ever morning and say "The monkey was mean to me again!" Now I on the other hand had an imaginary friend named Casey who used to boss me around and beat me at everything. Eventually I got sick of this and decided that Casey had exploded and was replaced by her identical twin sister Cassie who always let me win at everything. I also used to pretend that Michael Jordan was my daddy. Don't ask.

When I was younger, I used to have a friend who pretended to us all during the Gulf War that his older brother was away fighting and carrying out secret missions. Completely believable, but it was only recently I found out that this was completely made up - I had to wype the tears off laughter from my eyes when I heard this!! A childhood error!

I used to have an imaginary friend named 'Mr. Nobody'. My sister convinced me he left me to go work at a muffler shop. I cried for days.
I was a suspicious child. I started wondering whether the tooth fairy was real or if it was just my parents putting money under my pillow, so I decided to test it out. The next time a tooth fell out, I didn't tell them, but just put it under my pillow. The next morning, there was no money! That day I pretended to my parents that the tooth had just fallen out, and the morning after that, there was the money under my pillow. Proof that my parents were behind the tooth fairy scam!

When I was little my grandfather used to make coins appear from behind my ears so I thought he had magic powers. I used to get angry when he said he didn't have money to buy me something I wanted because I couldn't understand why he wouldn't just make the money appear.
