I used to believe…

Ok, this is kind of long....
When I was a kid, we had a backyard that we shared with the kids next door that was literally about a hundred acres-it branched off into woods. Being kids, me and my best friend next door and his siblings believed a lot of weird stuff. And somehow (don't ask how) we absolutely convinced ourselves that there were three different types of vampires living in the woods. There was one type of good vampire and two bad ones (one worse than the other) and we were absolutely convinced of this for years. Nothing would dissuade us from that belief, and this was way before Twilight! I remember our parents trying to convince us it wasn't true and us absolutely insisting it was and that we had proof (our proof amounted to a bunch of weird stones we were convinced were old molded bones left from vampire victims.)
The belief eventually died its' death the night my friend and I decided to creep out and "deal with" the evil vampires. We crept outside with our "stakes" (actually long sticks) and basically snuck into the woods. I don't know how long passed until we saw something moving but at some point we heard a rustle behind us, turned and dived at something that definitely was not an animal. Our combined weight was enough to knock the guy to the ground.
Oh, but imagine our horror, when the figure we had knocked over turned out not to be a malicious vampire but my best friend's very angry father, who had come out into the woods looking for us. It turned out us disappearing to fight vampires had actually had the police out looking for us.
From that day on, if you even whispered the word vampire around our parents your name was mud. The belief died a swift and painless death.
The worst part was the fact that my friend and I were not 8 or 9 when this belief faded away. We were almost 15.:)

I used to think that the Predator was sitting in the tree outside of my bedroom window. I used to build up my comforter thinking it would shield my body heat.

PS. I still think he is there ;-)

When traveling in the car at night I used to believe that the red dot in the sky was Rudolph (the red-nosed reindeer). It was just the reflection of my mom's cigarette on the glass.

When I first heard of the movie "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" I thought that the Third Kind was the name of the alien race on it. I figured humans were the First Kind but wasn't sure who the Second Kind would be..

I used to believe…

The Monkees were my imaginary friends. We had so much fun, they would always entice me into playing games instead of doing chores. My parents thought I was lazy, but of course I had to entartain my friends!

As a child (all throughout elementary school) I believed in fairies with a few of my friends. We bought books on fairies, pretended to be fairies, and tried to find a fairy. All my childhood life I hoped to find a fairy or step into a fairy ring (circle of mushrooms) so that I, too, could turn in to a fairie.

I used to believe that there really were elves living in a specific tree at our local park. I used to get really close up to the tree and listen as hard as I could, thinking I might be able to hear them.

After watching Matilda, I was convinced I would have magical powers if I harnessed them long enough. When I was 8, I spent my one entire lunch period of 45 minutes staring at a leaf.

When I was little we kept our bikes in the garage in front of the car, along with the lawn mower and gas cans. As a result, the garage smelled like gas, and I convinced myself that if I breathed in the air in the garage, the witch that lived there would enter my body and possess it. Needless to say, I became very practiced at drawing a huge breath of air, racing into the garage, grabbing my bike, and dashing out the door, all before breathing in again.

I used to believe that a tiger would attack me in the middle of the night, so I always slept with my back to the wall. I also used to believe that vampires would come into my room in the middle of the night, so I always slept with a bathrobe on and the collar rolled up over my neck.

When I was young, my friends and I believed that there were tiny fairies everywhere, and you could travel to their world by spinning and jumping on special stepping stones.

when i was young i used to think i wasn't normal not to have an imaginary friend because my closest friends had them so i used to make up ones on the spot and try really really hard to see them but it never worked.....

I used to belive that if i was upstairs alone, like when i was taking a shower or playing in my room, that a monster would come and get me because it knew i was alone. So i always paid my brothers and sister to stay upstairs with me

I misunderstood the concept of the Sandman as a kid.
My mom, checking on me before she went to bed, found me sitting up in bed. Why aren't you asleep, she wanted to know.
Calmly, I told her I was waiting for that old man to come and throw dirt in my eyes!

When I was little, I used to believe that I was a vampire. One day at school, I convinced my friends into thinking I was a vampire. I use to scare them and I got a vampire book that came with a necklace, I wore the necklace to school and told them it was a vampire necklace so they started screaming. :)
