When I was little I was watching Unsolved Mysteries and they did a show about aliens and Roswell. It scared me so much I was up all night crying because I thought aliens would kill us all. I was terrified of aliens for a long time after that. I couldn't watch Unsolved Mysteries for a long time either.

On St. Patrick's day when I was in kindergarten my teacher told the class that it was the one day of the year that leprachauns could come to life. The rest of the year they were stone statues. So we all went out for recess to look for leprachauns. Our teacher would yell and point "There's one!" and "I just saw one run over there!" and we all went running where she pointed. When I hadn't seen one that day I was kind of mad that I'd have to wait a whole year before I could try again.

When I was 8 or so I read the original story of the nutcracker, E.T.A. Hoffman's "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King", which is a very grim and creepy story. There was a character called the Rat Catcher, and any children up past their bed times when he made his rounds got nabbed, stuffed into a sack and turned into a rat to serve the mouse king. I was always up late into the night, and I knew that one night he would find me out... eek!

When I was about 7 or 8 I believed that a witch on a broomstick was hovering outside my bedroom window at night. I used to sit in the dark trying to catch a glimpse of her shadow. I would never look at of the window at night unless my lights where off cause she'd be able to see me and I couldn't see her. Whenever I looked out of the window with the lights off, I could never see her.

On the summer weekends, my mum and dad would take me and my little sister on walks in the woods. Dad used to tell us that the wood fairies left Opal Fruits on the stones on the bridge. So we would look on one side, but there werent any, so Dad told us to look on the other side, (while he put some on the first side) and so we would swap sides again and miraculously find Opal Fruits! We took ages, years to twig what was up.
There were never any sweets in winter, because the fairies were hibernating.
Then one summer there werent any sweets at all, and Dad told us the fairies had all moved to Florida and werent coming back.
I used to believe that there was a monster under my bed and when i went to bed, i would jump onto it so i didn't have to put my feet near it.
I used to believe that aliens would come and take me if I wasn't good to my parents
I used to believe that Dracula would come and bite me in the night unless I had my duvet wrapped tightly round my neck all night - it made for some warm summers!

After a playground discussion when we were about 7 years old, my friends and I used to believe that you would see Dracula if you looked into a mirror in the dark. We had a big mirror in the hall, and if ever I walked past without the light on, I'd be too scared to look!
I used to believe that my imaginary pals lived in two places and I would talk to them when I visited. My friends were called The Shaggy People, purely because they had very long fur! They were green, red, blue and yellow and looked a bit like Muppets. Except all you could see of them was their long fur, eyes and feet. They lived in the school toilets on the wall there and also in the waiting shelter on the platform of Brough Railway Station. When I was on a train going through Brough they would line up on the platform to greet me.

I heard Santa's sleigh on my roof when I was about 7. I was lying asleep in my bunk bed when I was woken up by a huge clatter on the roof...an I still believe to this day that it was Santa!!

When my brother was 8 years old, he saw a horror movie, with a man with red eyes that stole the mind of others and leaved their brains smooth.
From that moment, for the next 3-4 years, he couldn't sleep or stay at night with the light off.
