I used to believe…

When I was little (early 80s) I used to love the Monkees. I watched all the time, reruns, not the originals. The Monkees were my imaginary friends. Mostly Davey. I had a hobby horse that I rode like crazy, and I'd jump on the horse with the Monkees. Davey got to sit right behind me, how the other guys crowded on, I have no clue. Sometimes, Davey would fall off the horse, and I would wipe his brow with a red washcloth. Red from the blood, of course!

When I was little, my older brother used to sleep in my room on the floor (he was afraid of the dark!!). Well, in the wall, you could hear this faint buzzing sound. And if you tapped on the wall, it got really really loud. My sweet loving brother, who loved to scare me told me that it was ghosts and that our house was haunted. It turned out that it was actually bumble bees in the wall.

I had an imaginary friend called Silly Sally Stupid. She couldn't do anything right and I spent most of my time acknowledging this and proving that I was better than her at absolutely everything. The funny thing was, being a smart child, even then I was completely aware that Silly Sally Stupid's sole purpose was to boost my self esteem!

I had an imaginary friend named Bull's Eye. He was a skinny bull who walked on two legs, all black, and had one red glowing eye. I guess I was a pretty disturbed child since he would be deemed frightening by appearence.
I would talk to him and he would talk back. I remember my baby sitter's daughter, who was my age, going nuts over Bull's Eye. She told her mom about him and she said he was evil (she was very religious, must have been the whole Giant Raging Black Bull From Hell thing), and from that moment on I never gained full trust in him. I still have fun doodling him in class and addressing my thoughts to him at times. :)

When I was really little, I used to believe that there was a witch that lived under my pillow. If I put my hands there, she would wrap snakes around my fingers. It took a long time before I would sleep with my hands underneath my pillow.

I got a 'magic' pack of cards once and all the cards were of the 9 of hearts. I didn't know this and when I saw that they were all the same I thought I had done this and changed them. I remember constantly trying to change them back to normal but it just wouldn't work.

I used to believe…

Whe I was a nipper my older sister, by seven years, used to tell me that sometimes the Tooth Fairy got drunk and took an eye by mistake.
Gave me nightmares for months.

I used to believe…

When I was about 5 or 6, my older brother used to tell me all the time that he was really an alien, and that his real parents were going to come to take him home some day. He used to promise me that if I did what he asked me to do, he would put a good word in with his alien parents, and that maybe they would allow me to go back to their planet to visit. And if I didn't do what my big brother wanted, he would tell his parents how mean I was, and have them desolve me into a puddle of slime with their lazor guns.

Aren't big brothers great? <choke>

I'm still waiting for them to come take him away.

I used to have these 4 imaginary friends: Vicky & Tara, two Boarder Collie dogs; Frilly Baby (a baby with a pink dress & yellow hair) and Squeaky Mouse (cartoon-type mouse).
If they're reading this, I'd just like to say hi!

I had two imaginary friends, one called Giant and one called Spider (who may or may not have gone on to be a environmental protester in Coronation Street, we lost touch). Giant and Spider used to travel everywhere with us and I would make sure my family left room for them in the car. Many a time I would shout at unsuspecting aunts and uncles when they sat in what they mistakenly thought was an empty seat only to be told that they were squashing my friends.

I used to believe…

My parents told me that as a 3 or 4 year old that I thought Bob Geldof was my invisible friend. I would talk to him and I wouldn't let them walk up the stairs because he was sat on them. I have no idea why I chose Bob he was in the boomtown rats at the time.

I used to believe that Father Christmas lived up my granddad's chimney, after Granddad held a candel stick up there and I never saw it again

I used to believe…

In Puerto Rico they celebrate 3 Kings Day on January 6. The children would receive one gift on Christmas from (Santa Claus) and the rest of their gifts on January 6 from the 3 Wise Men (3 Kings). The idea was for you to leave straw for the camels to eat in a box. You would wake up in the morning and see most of the straw gone since the "camels would eat it." So one year, I decided I would leave straw under my bed during another time and was really devastated when I woke up and there was nothing but the straw under my bed. I left it there for about a week before I finally gave up.

When I couldn't sleep at night I would lie awake and listen to the house settling. outside my bedroom I could hear creaking and I believed it was The Knight who would patrol the landing keeping a watch throughout the night. and if I was to go out there I knew he would get me and snatch me away, never to be seen again.

i used to believe that the world was a big dollhouse. and each giant in another world, had a doll to take care of in the dollhouse. i was always afraid of what 'my' giant would do with me.

I used to believe…

When Ismall the stair to the second floor was enclosed on both sides, making it into a sort of narrow corridor. I had somehow gotten the impresion thatas soon as I started down the steps a gnarly, hideous witch was at the top of the stairs about to throw a dagger at me. I would fly down the steps as fast as I could go, and whip around the corner at the bottom before she could get me. That image stayed with me for years, long after I knew there was no reason to believe it.
