I had a dream as a kid in which my mother, dressed in a bunny costume, delivered easter eggs. At the time, though, I didn't think it was a dream.
It stopped me believing in the easter bunny, and I talked my sister out of it too, but it took a number of years before I realised that there was no way my mother would be dressed like that.

One easter holiday my family was staying in a caravan park. My sister claimed she had seen the easter bunny outside, very early in the morning. She swore it was true - there were the eggs to prove it!
I used to believe that at night when I was asleep all my furniture including my bed was replaced with identical copies by the fairies. I started putting a cross in pen on my bed to fool them. They obviously sussed it though because they always copied that too.

This is my experience with my daughter's imaginary friends. She had three main imaginary friends : Meanie...mutagenic bat/rat/boy with an attitude problem, Gogonagi...a giant six foot long rat....and Silly Beaver...a tree eating rodent. What upset me most was my daughter would wack herself on the head over and over saying.." Get out of there ! Get out of there !" ...when i asked what was going on she would say " That silly Beaver jumped into my brain again!!"....
I never really got any kind of explaination from her as to how this all happened or came from or meant.
I would sort of bite my lip and hope that it didnt mean she was truly crazy or possessed or anything...so far she seems to be ok for a teenager.

When I was young I read a "Raggedy Ann & Andy" book, where Raggedy Ann was only able to avoid an evil spell by having her fingers crossed. For months afterward I kept my fingers crossed all the time, to ward off any attacks.

When I was 7 or 8 years old, I was riding with my parents along a street in our small town. Lo and behold, there was Santa walking with a bag of goodies! My dad pulled the car alongside, and Santa jovially wished us "Merry Christmas" and presented me with a Hershey bar. I was agog that, first of all, we'd encountered Santa during a casual Saturday afternoon outing and, secondly, that my parents obviously were well acquainted with him, as they chatted in a most familiar manner. As we pulled away, I commented that Santa had been wearing a ring "just like Uncle Elmer's!" "Are you sure?" my mother said doubtfully, throwing me off the scent. It wasn't until a few years later I realized I'd been had!
I just got to this site and though I'm not much older than when these people talk about, I want to tell about my favourite belief, the Light People, who I saw one day when I was lying on my back and little light sparks looked like they came out of my lightbulb. I used to ask them questions and it was comforting.

When I was young and beleived in the tooth fairy my mom and dad would put chnge under my pillow in exchange for one of my teeth, so when someone told me that the tooth fairy would take any tooth I went and found the teeth from a dead animal in the field. But I did'nt get any change that time!
I used to believe there was such thing called the boogie monster. In my dreams about once a week I used to get tickled to death by the boogie monster, his wife and his children.

At the age of 3 I believed in the "doorknob people". I could see an evil, grinning "face" in the doorknob at night with the way the light reflected off the knob & surrounding area and I thought they were watching me. I thought they would come "get" me at night when I was sleeping, but there were two ways to keep them away. (1) If you pretended to be dead, they'd leave you alone. (2) If you made use of --*ahem*-- autoerotic practices (naturally I didn't have a word for this at age 3!!) it would form a protective shield around you that they could not break through. I used both methods routinely at that age. ;-)

When I was five or six my next-door neighbors had a small wooden bridge across the creek that ran into the woods adjacent to their backyard. I knew that an evil being lived under the bridge in the dark. I envisioned the being as generally human-shaped, about two feet tall, very stocky, hairy, and ugly -- similar to trolls, ogres, or hobs I've seen pictured in books. I knew it waited under the bridge to catch and eat children who crossed. Whenever I had to cross the bridge alone I would stare at it to make sure nothing was moving, then I would run across the bridge as fast as I could so I wouldn't get caught. I didn't tell any of my friends or my family because I was afraid they would make fun of me for being scared.
I used to believe that during midnight, if you looked into a mirror, Bloody Mary would come out and smile at you, cursing you to die. I still avoid going to the bathroom on the stroke of midnight.
I used to believe that the dinasaurs aren't really extinct, that we are all really dinosaurs, but we're just asleep and having this incredibly realistic dream that we're people.

When I was five, my dad tried to convince me that not only did the boogie man live in the air vents in our ceiling, but that he had two servants named Frita [a Hispanic woman with a fruit bowl on her head, similar to the Chiquita banana woman] and Mr. Peebles [a very nondescript man wearing a trench coat and a bowler hat]. Frita, I guess, was sort of the boogie man's mistress and they both worked for him.
I used to believe that the smurfs were real. There was this huge cluster of Pine trees by our house when we were little. Tons of mushrooms would grow under there.
My sister would say "I just saw a smurf!" and I would scurry under the pine trees to find it!! :D

My mom had one of the most amazing imaginations I have ever been exposed to. As a child she believed that she was sent to the humans by the flower fairies as a gift. Every afternoon she would run out into her garden and shout out 'I'm alright ! The humans are treating me well' so that the fairies wouldn't worry about her.
I used to believe that the cast of the Partridge Family was in my desk at school. I could look inside and watch re-runs of the show because if they could shrink themselves to fit inside the tv, surely they could shrink to fit inside my desk. I really could see them in there; that is the scary part ;-)

When I was around 7, everytime I played Gauntlet on my Nintendo system the TV would flash with static and I could hear voices of someone talking. I was convinced that those were aliens! I showed this to my friends and they heard, saw and believed it too.
I still don't know what caused it but it probaly had something to do with a radio antenna, although there were none in the neighborhood...
