I used to believe…
It was actually my daughter. We had bought her her first little bike when she was about 3 and had put it up in the loft of our garage until Christmas. On Christmas morning she came racing into our room screaming that Santa had been to our house. When I asked how did she know she said "because he went up in the loft and got that bike down for me". So much for my hiding place.

When I was younger, my grandmother use to tell me that I needed to come in before it got dark. Otherwise, the boogeyman would get me. There was a field behind her house and I use to imagine dark shadows racing toward me when it started to get dark to take me away and never be seen again.
I thought that there were monsters (Particularly Freddy Kruegar) hiding under any object that I would sit on just waiting to grab me. I stay still for hours fearing that if I moved they would kill me. When I couldn't stand sitting still any longer I would jump as fast and as far as I could off the couch or bed and run to where ever I could to feel safe.

I believed that there were monsters in my curtains because in the dark I saw monsters in my curtains. They were the curtain monsters.

My parents told me that if you sleep with your shoes at the end of the bed, with the toes pointing in opposite directions, the monsters who came into your room at night would get so confused by which direction to go that they'd turn right back around and leave again. I sill keep my shoes that way, actally. :)

As Christmas approached, whenever I misbehaved, my Mom used to pick up the phone to call Santa and rat me out that I belonged on the "naughty list." I'd beg and plead for her not to make that call, and it always straightened me out for at least a few days.
i had a bunch of SMURFs stuff when i was little, even my bedspread was SMURFs. then along came the story that SMURFs came to live and stole lil kids away from their parents! (imagine my terror having them all over my bedspread!) anyways, one morning i woke up and didnt find my mom but i did find all my SMURFs toys grouped together at the end of the hallway. i ran screaming into my sister's rooming telling her that the SMURFs had taken mom!
it turns out she had gone to the market while we slept. teehee..

I used to believe in an imaginary friend named Robert- He was the best. I remember he stayed the same age, lived in this huge house, had tons of cool stuff that he always forgot to bring around and was around whenever I needed him. I totally believed that he was real!
I remember a few imaginary friends growing up:
From about 6-7 I believed my name was Kelly and I had a host of older brothers (actually I was the oldest with a younger brother and sister). Some of them I remember were named Kevin and Ken. I can't remember how many of them there were but I do remember we worked in the circus as an acrobat act.
Later in middle school (about age 12-13) I had several animal friends, mostly a big Golden Retriever named Brownie and two squirrels named Chip and Dale. There may have been others; I remember a cat and a bird but I don't remember their names.
In high school I pretended (to myself) that I had a daughter named Faith at age 16 on my birthday. I imagined caring for her and reading about her stages. Even now at 29 I think about Faith and how now she would be 13!

When I was about 4 or 5 i thought that gremlins would come and get me when I was a sleep in bed. I thought that the only way for them to stop them kidnapping me was to surround my self with all my teddy bears as I thought they would protect me from harm.

Me and my cousin Aline were crazy about this brazilian boy band and their plane crashed and noone survived.A few days after that me and her started talking to them, they were very nice friends actually and we even dated two of them.I know this is crazy, but my cousin even got a valentines card from her "boyfriend", at the time I believed but then I understood she was crazier than I or much more of a big big lier...
I used to be afraid to go up into the attic at night. We lived in this really old house and the steps had a board missing from it. I was convinced that a hand would reach out and grab me. This may have materialized from my mischievous older brother.
I used to believe that aliens would come and get me in the night. I would lay awake terrified. To make matters worse, I was convinced that thinking about it sent a mind signal to them and they'd know exactly where I was. I never could avoid this train of thought, but they still haven't come to get me. (of course, there were some injuries I could never explain)

When I was four, I would hold my hand close to my face, flat and facing up so I could talk to it. But that's only what other people saw--I was really talking to Bowser the white mouse.
I had an invisible friend named John Wednesday and I beleived he was real. He didn't have hair...only leaves growing out of his head and his mother sent him out in the rain to play instead of washing his hair with shampoo.

My imaginary friend when I was young was, believe it or not... my ten speed.... I named my ten-speed.... Clyde.. the one hump. I imagined it as a camel with one hump (the seat). I had clyde from about the time I was ten until he finally got stolen. In memory of Clyde - the one hump. 1974 - 1989

When I was a kid, I believed that a little troll lived under our house and he was angry because we lived there. Since he was too small to make us move, he charged us taxes by taking one sock out of the dryer. I held this belief through college and have yet to hear a logical explanation for the disappearing sock
