I used to believe…
When I was a kid one of the other girls in the neighborhood said that if you went into the bathroom with the lights off at midnight and turned around three times, you would see the ghost of "Bloody Mary" in the mirror. One of the other girls said that she had tried it, and it worked. I was so freaked out that I haven't been able to go into a dark bathroom since. I don't believe the "Bloody Mary" part anymore, though.
I grew up with my Aunts and Uncles, the two youngest were my age, when I was very young they told me the boogie man lived in the alley, at night of course, when I turned 8 years old, It was my turn to throw the trash, so I learned Karate, the Boogie man never can out to play...
I used to believe that when you cut the lights out that something was in the dark watching me.

When I was very small, my parents had cable, and I turned on the T. V. one time just to catch the part in Poltergeist where Carrie-Anne reaches up to the T. V. and she is grabbed and pulled into the aternate universe. My mother saw what I was watching, and she ran to turn off the T. V. I asked her "Mommy, what was that hand doing?" and she said, "it was a friendly ghost wanting to say hello!" Until I was in college, I thought Poltergeist was a movie about friendly ghosts!
I used to believe in fairies, or little people that lived in flowers. I believed that they loved the rain. I would get excited when it rained and I would sit outside watching the puddles. I hoped that I could catch them when they would come for a drink of water. I used to build little stick houses hoping that I could attract one to me. I believed in this up until I was about eleven years old. I had a very vivid imagination, and I still do. I guess there is a part of me that would still like to believe in fairies.
I used to believe that when your first tooth comes out you are supposed to put them under the pillow and the tooth fairy will gave you a quarter.
I used to think that vampires hid in my room, waiting for me to fall asleep, and the only reason I never got bitten was that my blankies were magical -- I'd wrap them around my throat before drifting off, knowing that the vamps couldn't bite through them!

Also me and my friend used to believe, that gnomes live on the 5-th floor of my house, because I lived on the 6-th floor, and my friend on the 7-th. We decided that the 5-th floor would be the optimal place to place some gnomes.
I used to tell my stepkids about a friend of mine named Mr. Donkey. A donkey with seven antlers. I told them that he came over to visit when they were with their father every other weekend. My favorite story was to tell them how he'd relax in the bathtub, reading the newspaper and smoking a big cigar.
Once, I made little muddy hoof prints in the bathtub, and made some leading through the kitchen. Neither of the kids had believed a word of my stories up until then. But they became instant believers.
For about a week.

When I was in 3rd grade I was a latchkey kid (had to stay at home alone in the afternoon). One night I watched "Unsolved Mysteries" and it was about aliens. The next day I came home from school and was terrified to go in the house because I just KNEW the aliens were waiting for me. After tip-toeing around for a while, I finally went in the house. It left my mind for a little while until I heard a noise (the house creaked) and I freaked out! I called my mom at work and told her that the aliens were there to take me away. Needless to say, she wasn't too happy with me!

Apparently when i was very young i had an imaginery friend name colin, as i can't remeber this i've had to go on my mothers word. My mum use to have to set an extra place at the table for him, a bed made up next to mine, after many months of this going on, my mum went to set a place at the table for him one night, and asked how colin was going, to which i replied, he's not comeing back anymore, which prompt my mum to ask , why?, and i said, because i shot him.
Now i've got no memory of this event but my mum still makes jokes about it saying, he was a better kid than i was cause he never left any mess, even when he left. lol

After my mother very sternly warned me never to detach the vacuum cleaner bag from the vacuum cleaner, I thought doing so would release the monster that lived inside.
I believed that if you made shadow puppets, the animals would come alive and be live shadows. That's why some shadows move and scare you, and where shadows where you don't know what they are come from.
I grew out of this fairly quickly.

There was some sort of chicken-monster on that Ghostbusters cartoon, and I thought it lived behind my garage and would eat me if I went out back in the dark.
I had an imaginary friend Jeff who was invisible except when he wanted to be seen by me. He liked watermelon and spat out the seeds. My mom helped me write a book about him. We both miss him.
I also believed Superman lived under the table and ate scraps, and brushed against my legs.

When I was younger my parents took me camping for the first time. Right before bedtime my mother read me a book entitled "Mickey Goes Camping". Big mistake... cause at 1am I woke up believing that Mickey was camping in the woods with us and that I needed to find him. Needless to say my parents didn't get any sleep (I kept them up till 5am) and I never found Mickey. To this day I still wonder if he's out there! j/k
