I was 5 yrs. old and living with my aunt and uncle in the little hotel they owned. I had a little toy red piano. At night, a few days before Christmas, I would sit in the middle of the living room floor banging on it singing,"Jingle Bells". They turned the lights off, with only the tree lights glowing, and sat in their rockers watching me stare at the big window while banging on the piano, waiting for Santa to look in to see if I was being a good girl. Unbeknownst to me, my uncle had rigged a wire behind his chair running all the way to the outside of the window. There was a big cowbell attached to it. During my performance for Santa, my uncle would reach behind his chair and pull the wire, ringing the bell! I would fly terrified into my aunts lap screaming, "I've been good, Santa! I've been good!" On Christmas morning they would put a little dirt on the window sill to indicate that Santa had indeed come through the window to deliver my presents. That was 58 yrs. ago and I love them for being so involved in my life and providing me with such good memories.

When I was about 5 or 6 years old, I began to question whether there really was a Santa. Honestly - how could one man deliver presents to every child in the world in a single night? Then my teacher taught my class about time zones and now it made sense. He really had 24 hours to deliver all the toys and that was easily possible.

When we were kids my sister and I used to leave a mince pie and a glass of milk next to the tree for Santa. As we got older it became a mince pie and a beer .... I wonder if my dad had anything to do with that.

I'm Maltese and on special occations, eg christmas, easter, birthdays etc we would go to my nan's house for lunch which was usually rabbit for the main meal. Because we were little, the grown up's used to tell us it was chicken not too scare us. One easter a relative had passed away so out of respect we were'nt aloud any easter eggs or chocolates. Becuase we were children, myself and my cousines couldn't really understand why we didn't get any chocolates that year. That was untill we were informed by one of our elder couines that the easter bunny didn't come that year because we were all going to eat him and his "helpers" for lunch and that they were defrosting in the kitchen sink. Sure enough their was the easter bunny and his "helpers" defrosting in the sink. I wouldn't believe my mum for about 4 years afterwards that my cousine was only teasing us and that the easter bunny wasn't really defrosting in the sink.

When I was little for some silly reason, I used to believe that witches would fly around the neighbourhood looking into the windows of little kids and if the little kids weren't alseep by 9.30pm the witches would kidnap them and take them away to a place where no-one could save them. I have no idea where I got this Idea from, but If i couldn't get to be bed at night and it was almost or around 9.30pm, I used to close my eyes tightly and pretend I was asleep. It really scared me and I belived it till I was about 11.

The tooth fairy came to our house quite often as one by one as my brothers and my baby teeth fell out.
I was curious to find out the fairies name, and left a little card with my latest tooth asking what the fairies name was, and a space at the bottom at the card - "Please put your name here ....."
(Well the tooth fairy was in a bit of a quandry, because writing a name in human handwriting was sure to be a dead giveaway, and what was the tooth fairys name anyway?)
When I woke in the morning, the answer was quite clear, in the space provided was a brightly coloured star formed in glitter, There was no doubt that her name was 'Star'

As a young child, living near a highway, The Boo-Boo-Boo Monster would come to terrify me at night. As a two-year-old it was hard to articulate my fear and describe to my concerned parents why I simply couldn't be left alone in my bedroom. Alas, eventually I would be left alone and once again the Monster would come to visit me. 'Boooo B-B-Boooo B-B-Boo Boo Boooo' he would cry, and soon after I would be crying too.
Several years later, while stopped at some traffic lights, for the first time I saw a motorbike take off, accelerating quickly. And riding it was the Boo-Boo-Boo Monster.

When I was around two or three, I had an imaginary racoon called Marshmallow Marshmallow. The local children's library has different events every Summer, and I remember that one of my favorites was the Stuffed Animal Pet Show, which was meant for very young children, or those who had no pets. Despite the fact that I had a multitude of stuffed animals, I insisted on entering Marshmallow Marshmallow. Evidently the fact he was a real racoon, not a stuffed animal, didn't bother me.
I won the 'Most Imaginitive' category.

About the time me and my 2 sisters quit believing in Santa and Easter Bunny I had a dream that this pink Easter Bunny came in the back door of our trailer and I saw him put out the baskets. I really believed I saw him. I convinced my sisters I saw him. And later in my teen years, when I knew better, I still kinda believed that I had seen the Easter Bunny! :)

When I was younger, I scared to death of bloody Mary. All my friends were older than me, and my friend Melissa would tell me if i went into the bathroom, lock the door, turned off the lights and say "bloody mary, i have your baby(3x) bloody mary would come out. So, until I was about 7, i took showers with the bathroom door open a bit, so I cou run out if bloody mary ever came after me.

When I was 2 or 3 I had an imaginary friend in the form of a small white mouse. He was cleverly named "My white mouse" He talked to me in a whisper, and was always around though he slipped conveniently out of site whenever I had visitors. One day My white mouse wanted to fly a kite, and since he was much too small to fly my kite, he urged me make him one of his very own. So I pulled out my crayons, and drew in red a kite that was just his size on the floorboard of our hallway. Needless to say my parents were not impressed at my budding artistic talent, and forced me to scrub the kite away. I never revealed to my parents that it was My white mouse that urged me to draw the kite in the first place.

When I was about 2 or 3 I went to see The Nightmare Before Christmas, and from then on I thought Jack the Pumpkin King was really Santa, and that he liked me so much he gave me nice presents instead of scary ones.

My mum had my brother me and all my cousins believing in imaginary creatures called Gnomies. (You have to pronounce the g as in google).
We actually believed that the gnomies used to do all these sneaky little things. Whenever mum lost anything she used to blame the gnomies for stealing them. Especially her false teeth. I now have my children believing the same thing!!!!

When I was young (really young) my mother and father would always say things like 'Quick shut the door there's a draft coming in' or 'There's a draft in here I'll close the window'. Now I didn't know what the word 'draft' meant, but I knew what a dragon was and the two words had a similar beginning. So I thought that a smallish invisible(but not to my parents) dragon type crawling thing would come into our house when it was cold or dark out. A few years in school sorted that belief out. Thankfully
I live far up north in Norway, with midnight sun in the summer and northern light in the winter. I, like every other child, used to believe that trolls and ghosts would appear if I whistled under the northern light.
