I used to believe that nuns were real life witches. I remember being on an elevator with my mother and a nun, and hiding behind my mother so the nun wouldn't get me.

I believed that the milkman was really an elf. I used to try to stay up all night so I could see the elf for myself delivering our milk. I failed miserably until I was about six. I finally managed to stay awake. When I saw the truck stop I thought my heart heart was going to burst! Imagine my dissappointment when a regular guy walked up to my porch. It was my first major dissappointment in life.

My sister and I were questioning Santa Claus. This upset my father and uncle. On xmas eve they went up onto the roof outside our bedroom window wearing heavy boots and carring reindeer bells. Needless to say my sister and I believed for a few more years.
I believed in the Easter bunny long after I learned that Santa and the tooth fairy were a lie. It was because one night before easter I saw a human-sized bunny outside my window with a basket full of candy. I now know that it must have been a dream, but it seemed real at the time. My mom even tried to tell me it wasn't real, but I thought she was tricking me.
I used to believe that the Wolf Man and Dracula and Frankenstein lived in the hills (aka the 'badlands') on the way to visit my relatives. I would get so scared driving through there - especially since it was usually late at night.
I guess I probably believed that because my older brother and sister told me that every time we drove through there.
I used to believe I had an imaginary friend named (of all things) Diarrhea. And her Dad was the tree outside my Gramma's house and her Mom was the bush at the park by my Gramma's house. My sister used to torment me and say she was going to 'flush' my dear old friend away.
I don't recall how or when or why I outgrew my friend.

We lived, when I was small, in an apartment that had an open crawl space under the stairs. I was terrified of this space, and I was convinced that unless I raced up and down the stairs as fast as I could, that giant spider monsters from under the stairs would jump out and get me. I tripped and fell up and down the stairs several times due to the reckless pace.

When I was about 7 or 8, I believed that Santa came down the heater flue. Of course, we didn't have a chimney, just a wall heater, but my sister and were convinced he came through the grates somehow.

I used to wonder why people didn“t just put their heads under the Loch Ness to see if there was a monster or not. I though they were too scared to do that, and that maybe someone should take me there, so I would do that for humanity coz I had no fear.
I used to believe that there were fairies and elves living in every tree and plant. I used to talk to the trees and plants hoping the fairies and elves would come out and play with me.

My sister and I both couldn't figure out 1. how Santa came down our chimney, as it was very small and went into the oil-burner (a big scary box in the basement) or, once we kind of figured out that maybe Santa didn't really stop by; 2. Where my folks hid the presents.
Between the two (Santa and parents), we figured that some old man, who must have looked a bit like Santa (but thinner) would come by the house Christmas eve, and my parents would buy the presents from him. I still remember what he looked like.
And I STILL don't know where they hid the presents!
I believed that I had a twin brother called Michael. It was so real that right I believed it right up to my teens. I asked my mom what happened to Michael and she just looked at my strange, especially when I told her who Michael was. Mom just said, no that she was there at my birth and that there was no twin brother....
I used to think that Santa Claus came exactley at 10:00pm. So one Christmas eve I cried devesting thinking I wasnt going to get any gifts because I was not in my bed at 10:00.
I am a very old lady and my "friend" has always been with me. I've never been sure what he/she looks like but I've always known he/she was there.
I think everyone needs a "pooka" at one time or another in their lives, don't you?

when my family was taking long road trips, i used to believe that there was a guy on a bicycle following us around but he would ride along the ditches and hills on the side of the road and would watch him going up and down beside our vehicle for hours to keep myself occupied.
I had a sick, morbid and bizarre imaginary friend named "Hit me Hit me Hit me". He came from a nightmare I had when I was 2 (I made him my friend so I wouldnt be scared of him again) and he resembled a giant elephant's foot with a pair of whale-like flippers, covered in clusters of white suction cups. His "head" was just a smooth, flat mirror-like plastic surface. He could only say his name and liked to slap himself. Oddly enough, I was not a troubled or abused child.
I used to be mortally terrified of the aliens in the tv series "alien nation". For those who don't remember it, they looked human except they had no ears and they were bald with spotted scalps. Something about this made me sick when I was little. I didnt even know what they were from, I'd just see them on tv for a split second and start crying.
I had an imaginary dog called Shep for as long as I could remember. One day, my parents asked what sort of dog it was, and when I realised they couldn't see it too, he just ran away...
I didn't realise until I was 12 that sex was enjoyable, or involved penetration.
I really thought my Dad was throwing up a ball into that paper bag, and it was making a "thunk" noise.
I didn't realise Dad knew who had taken the piece of cheese, when he'd said "Don't take any cheese!" and turned his back.
Well, I was 3.
