I used to believe that any items in my bedroom - such as scarves, string, long sleeved jumpers etc - were possessed with an evil intelligence that awoke as soon as the lights went out and would strangle me in the night if I didn't tie them in knots. I finally stamped on this belief when I left home to live with my (now) husband when I was twenty !

I used to believe…

When I was little I thought if I slept with my hands beneath the pillow, witches flying past my bedroom window could not see me.

I used to believe…

When I was about 6 or 7 yrs old I swear to God, still to this day, that the vaccuum that was left in my room (that had two screws that looked like eyes)bent down and was coming at me. I saw it, I swear to God! I went under the covers and then got the nerve to rush to the light and turn it on. I don't remember much after that. I'm 33 now and I still "know" it happened!

The house we lived in when I was young didn't have a fireplace, thus, no chimeny for Santa Clause to come down. My parents thinking they were being reassuring told me they left the door open for him. This scared me a little. What really creeped me out though was the thought of some huge rabbit having acess to our house at Easter. I pictured the Easter Bunny as some deranged animal with huge buck teeth and was afraid each Easter-Eve to be alone in my bedroom. I was VERY relieved when my older sisters told me there was no such thing as Santa or the Easter Bunny.

I had an "imaginary" friend named Shiny Moll when I was about 5. I was so adamant about her being real that my parents believed in her too. I told them she was coming for dinner one night. They set a place for her, waited and waited....eventually after numerous Shiny Moll non-interactions, they asked my preschool about her and thats when they stopped believing.

I used to beleive that the fuzzy thing you see if you look at a light too long was some kind of creature named fuzzy.

I used to believe…

My and my sister found a small grey piece of plastic in our hen house once. We thought this piece of rubbish was alive and a man - we named him 'grey blob'. We checked on him at least once a day to make sure he was ok.

I used to believe that everytime I blinked, the lights would go out and that it was a witch who was turning them off.

I used to believe that when I went to the bathroom in the middle of the night that on the way back a monster would attach itself to my back. I would jump in the bed and roll around on my back to kill it.

I used to believe…

When I was little I had an imaginary pet goat named Andrew. He changed colors between blue and purple. If he (or I guess I) didn't like someone he would bite them.

I believed Santa Claus had handwriting that looked really like my dads... year after year i'd point out how similar they were to him.

I used to believe…

When I started to disbelieve the Santa Claus stuff, I decided to figure out who it was. A friend and I decided to work for weeks on elaborite traps. We had tripwires hooked up to a coffee full of pennies, and the can was over a doorframe. When "Santa," my dad, walked under, he was blugened over the head by the extramely heavy coffee can, and fell on the floor. He did think it was a pretty good trick though.

I used to believe…

My Grandad would say to us when we went to visit,"If you're not good, or if you do anything bad, then I'll get Charlie Gobilty Goup from the cupboard and he'll eat you all up". Sometimes he even used to reach in to the cupboard and bring something out and cover it up with his hands. He would speak to it as if it was his best friend, and up untill I was about 10 years old, I really thought there was something in there. Guess what, when we went to visit our grandparents, we were as good as gold, and even now I have a thing about cupboards!!!

I still believe in the Easter Bunny. Mostly, because when I was a young child (probably around 5 or 6) I saw him running down the street throwing candy and plastic eggs on lawns.

I bolted out of the house screaming and couldn't catch him.

My mom didn't believe me for years, but then we both realized that yes, someone had dressed up as the easter bunny.

I used to believe that the way santa could tell if you were good or bad was to keep a little green elf in your big toe video taping you.

I used to believe that if I went out to the living room too early on Christmas morning that Santa might still be there, and that if I saw him he would leave and take all the presents with him.

I used to believe…

In fifth grade, my friend Cheryl and I told everyone at school that we were aliens. We'd been sent to Earth as infants, we said, to be raised in an Earthling culture and collect information. Now the experiment was over, and our real parents were going to come in their spaceship next Tuesday night and take us back to our home planet.

No one believed us, but I think we did have several people convinced that we believed it ourselves.

I used to believe…

up until i was about 9 or 10 i had a herd of about 40 imaginary horses who would follow me around. sometimes i'd ride them (don't ask me how). they all had names and i had songs about them.

i was a strange child...

i used to believe that whenever something was missing from my house, like barbie's shoe or the left sock, that gremlins had come up through the floor and taken it. they were going to use these objects to help construct a machine to help them take over the world
