I used to think that a monster lived in the duct work of our house. I would always hear the noises, and think it was him moving around, and that the heat was him breathing fire.

I used to believe…
When I was about five years old, I told my classmates about my upcoming vacation to Myrtle Beach.
One boy told me that if I went anywhere near the water, a giant octopus would grab me and hold me hostage for two years.
I believed this, and refused to go out on the beach until my family coaxed me into doing so.

When I was a little kid, and when my mom, dad, and I lived in my grandparents basement, I used to believe that if I stepped in a laundrey hamper, that my feet would be stuck in them. I thought that if I stepped in them, and got stuck, that a monster would come and eat me. I also thought that fireflies were aliens, and if I went outside alone that I would be abducted and then eaten by aliens.

Having lived my first 4 years of life in northern Massachussetts, I just KNEW that Santa came by sleigh on the snow that was always on the ground at Christmas. When my Dad was stationed in Hawaii, I was terrified that Santa wouldn't come because there was no snow. Being a little kid, I never really had looked outside at night and saw all the bugs that come out at night in Hawaii, and as I looked anxiously for Santa, I saw them. Then I KNEW that in places where there wasn't snow, the bugs all came out to hold up Santa's sleigh. I could go to bed satisfied that Christmas would come.

We used to believe that the big fat red-eyed monster would come and eat us when we were asleep. One night we woke our mum and dad up with screaming because we thought we were being eaten! This was when we were 4 and for years afterwards we would sit up on our bunk beds all night clutching each other because of the red-eyed monster( we are twins).

I used to think that when you lick your elbow. You magically change into the opposite sex. And it's like you were always that sex. Me and my friends tried it for years because we wondered what being a girl was like.
We kept doing it even when we were put in a private Japanese boarding school at age 14. Then, about a month after we came to the school, my friend T.J. claimed that he did it but he didn't turn into a girl. We all had separate dorms and he went to his, got his girlfriend's uniform, some breast forms, a bra, panties, and a wig. Put them on, and came out the next day wearing them and insisted his name was Tyreesha. (T.J.'s real name was Tyler Jeron).
Me and my other friends got jealous, did it too and also dressed like girls. Then we got in trouble and had to wear it for the rest of the semester (18 weeks). And we had to act like girls. e.g. Go to the girls restroom, paint our nails, wear a dress to the dance, wear high heels, and (worst of all) our student information was changed to say we were females.

My dad made Christmas awesome when I was little. One year when I was sleeping, he took some bells and scattered them around the yard and-get this-that same year he took a brownie and molded it to look like poop and on Christmas morning he took me out to the yard to show me it and told me it was reindeer poop and the bells fell off of Santa's sleigh.
And, on the other the side of his Christmas fun, he always would have my mom and i make his favorite kind of cookie to give to Santa because he thought it was an excuse for us to make him cookies!

When I was around 6, I used to believe vampires were real. One morning my mom came out of her bedroom and showed my dad a big mark on her neck. I saw it and thought that Dracula had tried to get her, but did not succeed. I started to sleep with the covers right under my nose so the vampires couldn't get to my neck. I guess I thought vampires couldn't move sheets, either. Anyway, it wasn't until years later that I realized my mom had a hickey, courtesy of my dad.

When I was really young (maybe 4 or 5), I didn't understand how cars worked or how they went so fast. I used to believe that little faeries lived behind the side view mirrors and would come out and push the cars, racing the other faeries that were pushing the other cars. I would get so excited when we would pass another, because that meant we were winning.
