My dad used to tell me stories on Halloween about "the last house on the corner", and he said you weren't allowed to ring their doorbell, or oyu would be killed by monsters. Well, I believed him, and every Halloween I would freak out if my friends went to the last house on any corner. I would refuse to get candy from there; instead I woudl stand on the corner screaming at my mother to "save" them.

When i was little my best friend told me there was a different tooth fairy for each street. She said that her block had Tinkerbell and that my tooth fairy wasn't as good. At four years old, this was devastating news, and I wanted to move on my friend's block so I could have Tinkerbell.

When I was about 4 or 5, my brother Phil told me that our neighbor's new silver bullet shaped trailor
was really an alien spaceship and they had "taken" over our neighbors (ala Invaders From Mars). Of course I believed him. I always looked for the little hole on the back of their necks to see if the had been changed. They must have thought I was one wierd little kid, always trying to get behind them when they were talking to me.

Once, I was looking through one of my big brother's scary story books when I was about 6, and there was this really scary drawing of a dead lady with no eyes. I screamed and shut the book right when I saw it. The next day, I decided to read more. I read this story, that if you turned off the lights, and said "Bloody Mary" 40 times, a ghost would come out and kill you. So, I thought that lady in the picture would kill me. I never looked in the mirror when I was alone, even in the middle of the day! At night, when I needed to walk through a room, I would dart past the mirror! I was terrified of beind alone with a mirror 'til I was about 9 years old.

When I was younger I was afraid of the monster in my closet. My Mom told me to be brave, so one night I decided to make friends with this ferocious monster. It turned out that it was a baby monster named 'Little Monster', and it turns out he was just lost, and he was stuck in my closet. We became friends and went everywhere together. We would always go on adventures to find his parents, and then one day we found them, and I never saw Little Monster again.

When I was four and five, we would travel over the mountains to visit our relatives waaaay out in the country-middle-of-nowhere. On the way, I would always look and observe little abandoned 'country stores', like the little grocery stores country folk shopped at back in the day. At some point my granny would get tired of me pestering her for ghost stories and she would tell me that when ghosts needed to 'buy food' they went to shop at the 'Ghost Stores', which were all the little empty abandoned country stores dotting the landscape. She said at night that the whole store filled up with 'ghost food' and such and ghosts would come from all over to buy food. I really believed this until I was like seven years old, that ghosts needed to eat and that abandoned building were their grocery stores.

When I was little, my Mom, Dad and I would stay at my Grandparents house on Christmas Eve. They had a three story house, not including basement. Well, one year I slept on the third floor. After I heard everyone go to bed I heard a loud thump on the roof, then footsteps, and then I heard something slide down the chimney that ran from top to bottom in the center of the house. Followed by a large thud from the living room downstairs and ornaments hitting eachother.
My father is kind of a nut and would try to do something like that in his younger days. So maybe it was him. But I don't think I will ever know for sure, perhaps I will question him later.
Anyways, though I am 22 and no longer believe in Santa, this event still puzzles me and makes me wonder.

In kindergarten, after our teacher read us a story about fairies, she would tell us all to close our eyes so that the 'fairies' would come and scatter lots of glitter all over the room, and we could collect it afterwards. I thought the fairies really did come at first, but then I started to suspect that this wasn't true. This was confirmed when one day, I just pretended to close my eyes, and saw my teacher scattering the glitter. I didn't tell anyone, though, because I didn't want to ruin it for them.

When I was little, my dad used to do a 'magic trick' where he would get me to pick a card, seemingly at random, from the pack then lead me on a warmer/colder search for my card which would turn up in a seemingly impossible place such as CD case on the other side of the room or his back pocket. I would always ask him to repeat it, only to be told he had to have time to 'store up some magic'. What was really happening was that we had a set of two decks with different colured backs and he was hiding one card in advance and forcing the same one from the other deck, I just never noticed the different colour. I genuinely believed my dad had magical powers of teleportation and only found out the truth when he told me at the age of about 11 out of guilt.
