I used to believe…
When I was younger, I thought that there were ghosts in my room that came out when the lights were off. In order to make me safe, my dad would tie a bandanna around my head and that way nothing could get me. It worked...
I was around 5-6

Finally, I used to believe in all the usual things that kids are told in school about Santa, The Easter Bunny, etc, until I was sadly disillusioned at the age of eight when someone told me that Santa was really my headteacher at my primary school! God love him! So...so much for childhood beliefs. I'm a grown up now- nearly thirty six years of age but I still remember my childhood years with fondness and not a little nostalgia for a time when I was new to a world that seemed so full of mystery, wonder and endless possibilities!

When I was little, numerous alien movies had me convinced that aliens were real and they would abduct me while I was asleep.
Thus, I would pray every night to make sure the aliens couldn't abduct me. It sure helped me sleep better...haha.

I used to believe…
when i was a wee lad i thought that the easter bunny, santa claus and the toothe fairy were all in a gang. i thought they would all come together at different times throughout the year to steal our furniture and bath towels.. wheneva i lost a tooth i would place it under the back wheel of my dads car so when he reversed out of the drive way the tooth would be crushed or stick into the wheel and therefor prevent the toothfairy and her friends coming to my house..

When I was little, there was a barn just outside my window. On the side of the barn was a wooden ramp used for loading livestock (usually cattle) onto trucks. The streetlight cast a shadow at night that to my young mind looked just like the grim reaper. Every night the grim reaper would appear and keep a long vigil. Worse, the window was at the foot of my bed. I begged my parents to get blinds because it terrified me!
I used to believe I had elves with me wherever I went. I played and loved all my elf friends except Jasper who was mean to me and the other elves. One day my family (and elves) were hiking up Mt. Rainier when Jasper zipped past me to beat me to the top after a 3 mile hike uphill. He had been very mean during our trip to the mountain, so I sprinted the last 1/4 a mile to spite an imaginary elf.
This occured when I was thirteen.

Two of my grandchildren were convinced by their mom (my daughter) that the Tooth Fairy does not work on Saturday, Sunday or any Stat or Civic holidays. These grandchildren believed this during all of their tooth falling out days.
I used to think there were monsters in my bedroom. My wall was painted two colors at the time; white a little less than halfway up and pink below. As a way to reassure me that there were no monsters, my parents told me that the person at Lowes mixed in a special "Monster-Proof Fourmula" into the pink paint, and as long as I stayed below the white paint, I'd be safe.
I think this may have also been a way to stop me from getting up at night.
They still keep this up with my little sisters.
I read the pendragon book series so many times that I thought travellers and flumes and territories existed. I was convinced that we were battling for the salvation of earth and whatnot.
I used to have an imaginary friend named Silo. He was like a troll sort of creature and I used to talk to him all the time but I was always afraid that my parents would be able to see him and send him away so I kept him quiet. I remember he used to wake me up in the night and shout at me for leaving him. then one day he just left. I cried for days and my parents didn't know why. hehe.

This is one i haven't and wont grow out of... I still believe my childhood "imaginary friend" (an old man, in overalls and bowler hat) was actually the spirit of my great grandfather. ( I was describing him to my father and he told me thats exactly what my great-grampa looked like.)

when i was little i thought monsters lived in my closet. And the only way to stop them from coming out while i slept was to line up my stuffed animals across the front of the door. I would check in the morning to see if they had been moved during the night.

When i was young, i used to have a reacuring dream of the grim reaper epearing in my corridor. SO every time i wanted to go through the corridor, i would sprint as fast as i could. The weird thing is that i had nerver seen the grim reaper anywhere apart from my dreams. freaky dont u think?

At one time I believed that the Easter Bunny was a man that was dressed up in a rabbit suit and if i came in when he was giving chocolat e he's either mug me or explode...

when i was young, i used to cry every time i heard the song "i saw mommy kissing santa claus." it used to break my heart that mommy would cheat on daddy with SANTA of all people! i learned the truth when i was 8 or so, but i still hate the song.
my grandma still brings it up every christmas, and i have yet to tell anyone *why* it made me cry.

When I was around 5 I was told that when it rains while the sun is out it means that a witch is getting married.
It rained when the sun was out at my cousin's wedding a few days after I had learned about this. It scared me so badly that 20 years later she still freaks me out a bit.

After the movie Tremors came out I thought that worms-things were real. For weeks after that I would only walk on the sidewalk, I tip-toed everywhere, and when I was in a car, had my mom drive as fast as possible to escape being eaten. I still have this fear that somewhere out there they still exist.
