When I was little I used to believe that if our family was out visiting on Christmas Eve too late, and came home and interrupted Santa while he was bringing presents, Santa would never come back to our house again. And Santa visited on the stroke of midnight so you had to all be in bed by then. So I was always in a state of high anxiety on Christmas Eve when we were forced to stay at our boring cousins' house until 11:30 p.m. We would never get home in time!! Stupid grownups!!
Also, I believed Santa needed a chimney to come down. This was never a problem because my mom would always put up a fake cardboard chimney decoration in the living room. I knew very well it wasn't a real chimney and didn't lead anywhere, but I believed Santa could use it.

I used to think that draculas were another name for vampires. So I thought that I could be attacked at night by a dracula. I eventually found out that Dracula was a vampire in a story.

When I was young I used to believe that zombies were real. And so, one Halloween when my older brother dressed as a zombie, I thought he had actually turned into one, and ran away from home for a good few days. My parents had to call the police and everything. I must have been about five? I don't think my brother ever got over the guilt of making me run away and get abducted! I think if I had been sexually abused it would have probably killed him, although being a zombie, it's unlikely he would have noticed! ial

On Christmas night, when I was 4/5, my parents stuck shredded cotton balls to our fireplace grating when they were downstairs delivering Santa's presents (and I was upstairs sleeping). Yes, I fell for it.
i would lie awake at night, pretending to sleep, and i would wait for a vampire to come. See, i was a twisted kid and i WANTED to be a vampire so i would wait and wait, but they never came.

Like most children, I beleived in Santa when i was little. I believed really hard and I vividly remember one christmas eve being determined to stay up all night so that i could see Santa. I sat at my window for what seemed like ages, looking out on the frosty starry night. Then my heart skipped a beat. I heard slay bells and I thought I'd better get in to bed and pretend I was asleep, quick smart, thinking that if Santa saw me spying him - he'd be annoyed with me. So i snuggled down and brought the covers up and did that thing when you pretend to have your eys closed but they are atually open a little bit. I waited and watched and then the next thing I woke up and it was Christmas. There was my stocking filled with goodies - but I had missed him! I was a bit gutted. A few years later I was telling my mum how excited i'd been and how I really did think I had heard slay bells... she said "You did!" and went in to a cupboard and started raking about and produced a red leather strap thing with a bunch of little bells on it and gave it a wee shake.
I always beleived there was something calld the tooth-fairy.... my brother ans mum told me that.... one day when my tooth came out, I put it under my pillow and at night I saw my mm and brother come, lift up my pillow and put some money there..... thats when I realised it was all lies!

Very simply, i thought that if i looked into a mirror, even during the daytime, bloody mary would come out and kill me.
I used to pretent I was deep in the jungle of Africa doing a study on lions. My only contact with the outside world was through letters, which I typed on my type writter. I documented trapping, taming and becoming very close with these pretend lions. Eventually they turned on me and my last letter to the outside world, which I still have, pleads for my colluges to find my remains and revenge my death by killing the lions.

That imaginary friends are real
I used to believe that Santa had twelve elf helpers: no more no less. This was extremely important to the balance of the world, and why the number "13" is considered unlucky. If Santa got another helper, the whole world would become out of whack and would spiral into a world of chaos and destruction! I still partly believe it today :)

At age 5 - 8 I had animaginary friend called Frank. He was only ever called upon when I was playing solitary games - such as trying to hit a ball against a wall 20 times without it hitting the ground.
Frank and me would have competitions like best of 3, but if I was losing I would change the rules to say best of 5. I would keep on changing the rules until such time as I was the winner.
I used to believe that Santa was a distant relative, like an Uncle Ned who you've never met but sends you a bunch of money every year anyway. I figured Santa Clause was just some generous, rich relative that I had never met, and he decided to send us all great things every year. I never really noticed that all of my friends got things from him, too. It would always confuse me if we walked into a mall or somewhere that had a "Santa" talking to kids!
