When I was young, I would write letters to Santa, the Easter bunny, the tooth fairy... and the mailman. I even drew him pictures. I'm still not sure how he ended up being ranked alongside the tooth fairy and Santa in my head! I don't think Mom ever put any of my letters in the mail box.

I am 14 and I still believe in Santa Clause. Once when I was 7 years old he came to our house on Christmas Eve. He knocked on the door and gave me and my brother a teddy bear each, and reminded us to be in bed when we were told to get into our beds. That was an awesome Christmas.

When I was little, about 5 years old, I believed in Santa and his reindeer. Then, on that same christmas, my dad told me that he saw Rudolph and the other reindeer on the roof, and he gave them carrots. I am 11 now and now I know that Santa, Rudolph, and the reindeer don't exist.

One time around Christmas, I wondered why there wasn’t any soot on the floors after Santa came down the chimney to put down our gifts. My dad told me it was because he (Santa) carried around a very quiet vacuum cleaner to clean up the soot before he left.

Once on Christmas Eve I woke up at about 11:00 pm to go to the bathroom and heard what I now know was my father shaking a sleighbell just incase my brother and I were awake. We believed if Santa came and we were awake he wouldn't give us anything. So of course I believed the bells were actually Santa and I remember thinking how pissed off my brother was going to be the next day when we had no presents because I'd needed to use the bathroom.

I used to believe that my grandpa was the real Santa. Every year at my dad's company Christmas party he would dress up as Santa, and every year on Christmas Eve we would go look at Christmas lights and then when we returned home we would catch him in the house putting our toys out. He would walk out the sliding glass door and tell us he'd be back later, he had to deliver the rest of the toys to the other kids. He'd be gone for hours..

i used to be told by my mum that if i "wasn't asleep when santa came", his fairy friends would squirt their fairy magic into my eyes and blind me. =[
I was told that this is what happened to blind people.

That was pretty cruel.

I used to believe that if I didn't get to sleep on time, Santa wouldn't come. So when Christmas Eve came, this is what had happened:
1. I had stayed up reeeeeeeeeeally late the night before, so I would be tired.
2. I had avoided chocolate later in the evening so I could fall asleep.
3. I had gone to sleep as late as I dared, hoping I would be really tired so I could fall asleep.
So at night, I would start to cry if I didn't fall asleep in a minute....turns out that "Santa" would have come no matter how late I fell asleep...because you would notice my parents practiced staying up two hours after my brother and I went to bed the past week...

Boy, was I desperate for presents.

I learned from an early age that Father Christmas, or whatever you want to call him, wasn't real. Therefore, the first time I saw a man in a Santa suit, I freaked out. ("A Visit From St. Nicholas" triggered similar freak-outs for years afterwards.)
