I used to believe…

There's a scene in the movie called The Incredibles, where the main character stamps the word "denied" on a piece of paper and an old lady says, "You're denying my claim?!".

Well, when I first saw the movie, I thought she was saying, "You're denying my *plane*?!" and wondered how on Earth someone could deny a plane.

I used to believe…

In Peter Pan, a pirate says, "Here we are collecting barnacles on this miserable island!", the joke being that they were so inactive that barnacles were growing on them.

Well, when I first saw the movie, I didn't get the joke and I thought he meant collecting like you collect stamps or whatever. I thought he was implying that they were so bored that they could only do silly things like start a barnacle collection.

When I was a child I used to believe Pokémons were real because I watched every day on canal 18 it’s gulli but today know Pokemons are not real because they are cartoon characters

I used to believe…

This is not me, but a friend of my father's. Apparently, Dad and his friend used to watch TV together as young boys, and Dad's friend didn't have a TV when he was little, so he didn't know how TV worked, so every time there was an ad break, he would burst into tears and rant about how the show had ended too early.

This is a belief I shared. There's a TV show called "Tots TV" and in the intro, a boy says, "I'm a tot" and then a girl says this French phrase. Well, not only me, but actually at least two people on the Internet thought she was saying, "And she's a tot" and apparently a lot of people still do think she's saying that because that wrong lyric pops up on Google Autocomplete!

The weird part is, she's the only female tot on the show, so if she was singing that, it would make no sense!

I used to believe…

Not me, but a bunch of my friends! We were on a class trip to the aquarium, I was six (or maybe five and a half) and at least four but maybe even the whole class of my friends wanted to literally "find Nemo" as in the movie Finding Nemo, in the aquarium. They thought Nemo was in there, but I knew even then that he was a cartoon character and he was in the sea. At one point, a boy found a clownfish he thought was Nemo, but another boy said, "No, you fool! Marlin!" (Marlin is Nemo's dad).

I used to believe that when a show would ask something, they can hear our response. For example: "How many sides are in a rectangle", I wouldn't say anything but, the character would be like,''I can't hear you!" It freaked me out so much and from that day, I would scream at the t.v, telling the characters what to do!!

I used to believe the person who talked in the adverts on the radio stayed all the day in a cabin, and stay stand up all the time and wayting for the time to speak.

When We first got our xbox it had jet set radio future(game where you graffiti and skate and stuff)
anyway it came up with a warning at the start of the game saying graffiti is an act of vandalism with this big post(saying real life vandalism is a crime) But I thought that it meant that I couldn't play the game because I would be breaking the law and so I turned it off and felt terrible thinking I had done something wrong, when my Mum and brother came home they assured me it was fine.

When I was a little child, I used to think that the way the little people living inside the TV made their living was that my parents had to pay them according to the amount of time we watched TV. My mother was talking about having to go back to work, so I started watching TV less so my parents wouldn't have to pay the little people a lot of money. I'm embarrassed to say that I also used to talk to the little people inside the TV when it was off. I especially liked to talk to Uncle Al and Lucille Ball. They never answered back, thank goodness. I didn't think my parents had to pay them when I talked to them and the TV was off. They were my friends, and salary didn't cover what you did in your leisure time. My grandma caught me talking to the TV and thought I was barmy. She advised my mom to have another child instead of going back to work because I was obviously lonely.

When I was about seven (maybe eight, maybe six but around that age) I dreamt that I was trying to play games on my favorite website in the middle of the night but found out that at nighttime, websites with games on them turn into "serious" websites and all the games become unavailable.

I also used to have this recurrent dream about finding out that I'd left a computer game abandoned and the sprites were crying.

I was curious and wondered if either of them were true, but didn't test either of them because with the first one, I didn't want to break the rules and with the second one, I didn't want to make the poor sprites sad.

Because of a dream, when I was five I thought that if I unplugged the radio while it was playing a CD, it would make a horrible noise and then the house would explode. Dad told me it wasn't true, but I was a bit suspicious of radios for a few days after that.

At the end of the second Alvin and the Chipmunks film, Alvin says, "Shake what your mama gave ya!" and I thought that was an instruction to shake all the body parts that you inherited from your mother genetically. I was having trouble because I inherited my forehead from my dad but the lower parts of my face from my mum.

I used to believe…

There's this movie called Finding Nemo, and at one point, a girl is tapping on a fish tank and it is too loud for the fish, and one of them shouts, "Find a happy place!".
I didn't realize he was talking to himself and meant a happy place in his imagination.
I thought that he was talking to the girl and telling her to go find someplace that would make her happy and therefore stop bothering him.

When I imitated something from a TV show, my mother told me, "Don't copy what you see on TV."
I thought this was a strict rule for about two years and I told her off for singing the theme tune to a TV show.

I used to believe that Mowgli from Disney's The Jungle Book was a girl, because he had long hair just like my sister.
