When I was a kid, I saw a TV commercial advertising a place that was having a "liquidation sale" because it was going out of business. I had never heard that term before; I thought that it meant whatever merchandise was left unsold at the end of the going-out-of-business sale, they would take and melt down. (You know...liquidate!)
I figured it was some sort of marketing gimmick to coax people into coming to the sale and buying things - nobody wants to see so much stuff go to waste like that, after all. This all made perfect sense to me.
I used to believe that fictional characters weren't real, or in other words, weren't aware of the audience's existence. So I used to wonder why people write letters to fictional characters if they can only read letters from other characters.

Back then, when I was 7 years I used to believe that if I say a name of sickness I'll have that sickness so, once I saw on the news that a doctor was talking about a dangerous that the children used to suffer at that age, then I said to a cousin that she can't tell it and she believed it too.
I used to believe that the people who we see in the tv were inside it and I always looked behind the tv yo te and get them out of there.
I used to think that Madame Giselle from Peppa Pig had pink blush on one cheek, and brown blush on the other. I always wondered why she used 2 different blush colours instead of just one colour. Then my mom told me that the brown part is her nose, not blush.
I used to believe that the film "Never ending story" was really without an end. So, when I listened to my friends at school talking about it, I passed my afternoons zapping all the channels in order to find this endless film

The intro-song to the kids show Kim Possible goes: 'Call me, beep me if ya wanna reach me' and so on, and I believed she would actually come if I called her, so I went to my balcony one day and shouted "KIM POSSIBLE!".

When I was very small there was a show called "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" about a submarine. What I remember most about it is that people were always falling down. I had a relative who sold carpet, and I had a talk with him about the charactors falling down all the time.I assumed that he knew all about how to install really thick carpet so the characters wouldn't get hurt when they fell. The embarrassing part was that I got confused and I thought my uncle personally provided the carpet for the show, and told the whole class for Show and Tell. The teacher called me a liar and was not happy. I was just confused.I was five years old, after all.To this day, I feel embarrassed when I think about that silly show and plushy carpets and how nasty the teacher was.

This is kind of embarrassing. My mother was a bigoted white Southerner, and when the original Star Trek came on she did not approve or let us watch it, not only because of Uhura, but because she had heard somewhere that Leonard Nimoy was from "the only tribe in Africa that has ears like that". She basically thought the ears were REAL and he was wearing " whiteface" makeup because he was black. It was absolutely idiotic and she would tell people "the truth" and embarrass me.Only after he appeared in Mission Impossible did she grudgingly admit her mistake.I think Leonard Nimoy would have been very surprised to hear that he was actually from Africa..in someone's twisted fantasy.

In my early days of internet chatting, if the other person was online but not responding soon enough, I'd worry they had a heart attack or somebody kidnapped them or something. Nowadays I realize that it's more likely they're just thinking, or distracted and I feel like I'd been stupid as thunderation.

I used to think that if you broke the TV screen all the pictures would fall out, like, they were all stacked in there somehow.

When I was very small, my parents always told me not to believe everything you saw on television. That's a good lesson to teach kids, but unfortunately for me, they weren't very specific. As a result, I got it into my head that EVERYTHING on TV was pretend.
I got my facts straight some time after I started kindergarten. My teacher was teaching us about the alphabet. I tried to tell her that the alphabet wasn't real, and that it was just a pretend thing on Sesame Street. When my parents came to pick me up that day, she had a little talk with them...

My 6 year old nephew used to believe that Tom Kenny had a magic voice because he could laugh very long without stopping in the Spongebob's longest laugh video. He then found out that they just played a recording of him laughing and repeated it several times.

I used to think that if you leave the Xbox console on too long, it will overheat and explode!
I used to think that the characters in the simpsons were yellow because the creator didn't have any skin coloured markers when the first episodes were made. Maybe it's true!

When I watched the trailer of the Peanuts Movie that showed the characters ice skating outside, I thought one of the girls in the trailer was saying "Watch the girls" until we got the DVD from the library and put the subtitles on and I found out she was saying "Watch the curls!"
