I used to believe…

My 18 yr. old daughter recently told me that when she was little, she thought the songs she heard on the radio were being sung live. Imagine her confusion when she heard the same song at the same time on different stations.

When I was younger I used to think Batman was evil (because of his Black suit and monotone voice) and I thought he was holding Robin hostage (for some reason) so I would always shout at the TV. My parents got a few laughs out of this.

When I was little I used to watch this cartoon movie called "The Hobbit" (you know lord of the rings) and I used to call Gollum "Green Guy" and I was so scared of him and thought if I wore a ring he would come after me and rip my finger off. Then when the 1st lord of the rings movie came out when I was about 15(A good 9 or 10 years after I saw the cartoon) and went to see it with my friend and I had no Idea that it was in anyway realted to that movie I used to watch. But when I heard Gollum say "My precious" I screamed out "OMG That's the green guy!!" And I was so thrilled that I remembered the movie. Now anyone who has seen the LOTR calls him green guy as well. lol

When I was 3 or 4 I thought that my dad was Mr. Dress-up (a Canadian children's entertainer) because they looked somewhat similar. I thought that when he went to work that he was going to the tv station and my proof was that he was on the tv right after he left the house each morning.

I also believed that if I whispered into the headphone jack on the tv that whoever was on the screen could hear my voice coming out of no where...

When I was small, I used to think there were people who lived in the tv and performed things. Later, when I understood that the pictures were transmitted from a studio, I thought the actors had to be there to perform things everytime the thing they were in was shown. I thought the people in the adverts must be quite heroic - they had to get pretty tired jumping to every time the adverts came on, after all. Oddly, I think I did understand that videos were just recordings, though.

When I was a kid, I used to think I was starring in my own TV show. I even used to slowly turn around and smile as if I was in some cheesy opening credits. I would narrate too.

I used to believe…

When there was no TV show scheduled for a specific time the listings would say, "To Be Announced." I always thought that this was the name of a show and for some reason assumed is was a religious program so I always avoided it.

I used to believe that when I was in the car listening to the radio, that the singers were actually in the trunk playing and that they were tiny hahaha stupid

I was about 6 years old when I saw this Bugs Bunny war cartoon with Hitler in it. When he would talk, it would just be yelling with words thrown in like "Saurkraut, wienerschnitzel, etc." as well as made up words like "Gleek, whoopen, shanko etc." So I was under the impression that he was speaking actual German. I was very disappointed because I thought I knew a second language for the longest time when my mom finally explained to me that it wasn't German and that I'd get strep throat for constantly yelling like that.

When I was little I used to think when movie advertisments said "see it at a theater near you" you had to see the movie within a certain number of miles from your house. I always wonderd how they would know where you lived.

I used to believe that people on TV shows, actually WERE in the TV. Particularly Scooby Doo, for some reason. And I had this 'lifelong dream' of finding a secret way into the TV and solving mysteries with the gang, and to be Daphne's best friend.

When I was in Kindergarten I was eating lunch and watching Rugrats and my friends and I said we were the voices of the Rugrats. The girl asked why we were sitting there now then. That stumped me for years until I finally learned that you don't record the voices live.

I used to believe…

My mother was a huge soap fan. At the end of the soap it would say "film in new york city". I thought it was real life and that those people in New York City could see what we were doing in Alabama for an hour every day. I would try really hard during those "daytime" hours not to do anything too embarrassing (like going to poop). Now that I'm an adult I know that people in New York City dont care what we do in Alabama.

When I was little, I used to think there where people inside the television who operate it.

I used to believe that the people singing on the radio were all waiting on line to play their songs... and then would go to the back of the line until they were called on again.
