I used to believe…

Just a few weeks ago (I reasoned this out with said friend), my friend and I thought we were the Black Spy and the White Spy from MAD MAGAZINE. We would run around my basement making "helicopter" sounds and try to beat the shizzit out of each other using pillows.
We live in a retirement community, so imagine our neighbors thinking they were going senile seeing a couple of teenagers in fedoras and sunglasses running around the backyard.
Luckily, this is not believed anymore.

While in San Antonio on business a few years ago I found a "Duke Skywalker" T-shirt for my stepfather, a Star Wars fan, that said "May the Horse be with you." My stepfather was very entertained -- my mother stared in perplexity because that's what she always *thought* they were saying, and there never was any horse in the movies...

I used to believe that an "Al Pacino" was a kind of a horse. Hahaha.

When I was little I used to believe that the musicians and singers on the radio were actually at the radio station performing their song every time it was to be played. I even asked my father "How did they get to the other station so fast?" when he changed the radio station and the same song was playing.

When my Dad was about seven, he and his brother were watching Star Trek. When the commercials came on, his brother, ((Who was about fifteen,)) started talking about Spock, saying 'Whoa ho! I bet that guy is laughing and acting happy the whole time the commercials are on, since he's gotta be serious the rest of the time!'

And my Dad, who I must mention is nearly ten years younger, was thinking, 'But it's not a live program ...'. =)

many moons ago (well, i'm not that old) i was at the cinema with a friends of mine and a trailer for a new film came on. after a few film clips it said "tom cruise", then some more film clips and "renee zellwigger", then a few more clips and "jerry maguire" and i turned to my friend and said "i've heard of the 1st two, but who's she?". sadly i hadn't realised that jerry maguire was the name of the film... this 'friend' has never let me live it down and bought me the video a few years back just to rub it in!

My brother used to believe (and insist) that "Family Feud" was really called "Family Feudge" (pronounced "fyooj"). I don't remember when he finally came clean about it.

I was a huge fan of The Carebears and believed they were real. So much so that when I would cry, I honestly believed the Carebears would see on their care-o-meter that I was sad and would come cheer me up. Of course, this never happened and I was always so sad that they ignored me.

There was a BBC TV show for kids called The Wombles about these pretend creatures that live on Wimbledon Common and recycle and tidy up rubbish. One of them was called Uncle Bulgaria and so I thought that a womble must be a subspecies of badger that in reality lived in Bulgaria. I was really into nature as a child and knew that no real animal wore clothes and so I thought that they lived underground in Bulgaria. I never knew where Bulgaria was until I was older but I thought that it was mountain and deserts. In the desert, they would eat worms and insects. In mountains, they supplemented their diets with berries and grains. I dont know why but as a child, I thought Bulgaria was like an African country and that wombles scavenged anything from human settlements. I eventually realized a womble was purely pretend and has no basis on real-life animals. =)

when I was a kid aahh! real monsters was my all time favorite show. first imagination: I pretended that the monsters would leave to go to class at midnight.(gromble starts class at midnight I have the plush versions of ickis krumm and oblina) then imagination turned into belief. I believed for the longest time that they were as real as I was. that was fun

I remember once when I was a kid, there was some kind of technical problem at a TV station and the station would play. They had some picture of a sun wearing sunglasses and a TV antenna with a message stating there was solar disturbances and programming would resume shortly. In the background they were playing music and it was the song "Baby Elephant Walking." For some reason or another; this whole thing scared the hell out of me. I guess I thought that meant the world was ending and TV was the first thing to go. To this day when I hear that song I get a little nervous.

I used to believe that "S.C. Johnson Wax" was actually "Messy Johnson Wax"... I figured that was why he made cleaning products, to clean up his house after being so messy. But I did think that Johnson Wax was a very strange name indeed...

When I was a kid, I thought that Ingmar Bergman and Ingrid Bergman were one and the same person. I also thought that Ingmar Bergman was a woman. Strangely enough, I believed that Candace Bergen was somehow related to Ingrid and Ingmar.

When I was a kid (I'm not sure how old) I used to go on family holidays to Cornwall (UK) and stay in a cottage. One time I was watching Formula 1 on TV, and my parents wanted us to go out, so when I complained (I wanted to watch the rest of the race) they said it will still be there when we came back. For ages I thought that the TV was like a video and I could watch the end of the race when I got back.

The theme song to The Wombles includes the line 'the wombles of Wimbledon common are we'. For years (until I was well into adulthood) I thought this meant that the wombles were not posh because they made their living picking up litter.
