When Jaws was just released it was the scariest film i had ever seen. I actually belived that a "Jaws" would come up the toilet and bite me on the bum! Took me a while to get back on the toilet and a lot of convincing from my folks telling me he could'nt fit through the pipes!

I misheard an advert where the line was 'his debt, is destroying his family'
but i misheard it as 'his dad, is destroying his family'
No wonder i never trusted loan companys...

As small children our grandfather would force all of us (his grandchildren) to watch The Incredible Hulk on tv (with Lou Ferrengo). This never really did it for me, but my cousin would repeatedly say "the hulk's nice, isn't he," whenever the hulk appeared. As a birthday treat, his father decorated his room with Hulk wallpaper, as he always talked about the Hulk. That night, my cousin lay in bed, unable to sleep as he was actually frightened to death of the hulk. It seemed that he was actually extremely scared, but believed that by repeatedly saying nice things about him, he would become his friend and would therefore be safe. My uncle was not pleased at having to strip all the wall paper down the next day.

This is more of an event than a belief.

When my cousin(4 yrs.) was in church one day and going up to communion, there was someone who had glasses and hair like Harry Potter. So he said" Look Mom! It's harry potter!"

I used to believe that if you were watching a cartoon on TV, that it was okay to turn it off if you had to go out with your mum or something, because when you got home later, you could just turn the TV on and the cartoon would continue from where you left it before! (This was long before video recorders were invented!)

One time I told my cousin that people could come out of tv's, and the only way to send them back was if I used my wand on them (it was a stick). So for years, she was scared of watching tv unless I was there.

When I was younger, my uncle really loved the movie LaBamba and he would watch it often when I was over. I always thought that Richie Valens name was actually La Bamba until the time I was 12 or so.

When I was little I came home from primary school (I'm in Scotland by the way) and I asked saw my dad watching a programme that had been on the night before. Not realising that this had been recorded on a video I asked some time later if he could rewind the TV for me too, so I could watch my favourite childrens show! When my dad told me that you couldn't rewind telly I couldn't understand how people could live without this highly important feature I believed televisions had!

I remember asking my dad once very seriously why people in the olden days walked faster. The old black and white silent films from way back when were always showing people moving faster...

I used to believe that television was a portal to another location/world. I believed that if I broke the glass on the TV, I could actually jump into whatever was on television and that's where I'd be. I think it came from watching the Alice in Wonderland TV Special from the 80's. She could look through the mirror and there would be that whole other world. Good thing I never found a world good enough that justified breaking the TV!

i used to believe that when you turned the radio off, it would be at the exact same place when you turned it back on. It was kinda like the power button was a pause button. It never seemed to work though...

I loved the movie Puff the Magic Dragon except for one part...
When puff pulls jackie's "living thing" out of his ear and puts it into the paper jackie. oh, God...
I was terrified that Satan was going to pull out my soul through my ear. Now tell me, what kind of thing is that to put on a children's show?!

When I was really little (3 or 4) I was a big fan of YTV, where sometimes they would take in kids pictures and show them to everyone. I really wanted to draw a picture for them, so every day I colored my heart out, and every day I put the pictures in the gap between the TV and the counter. I thought that this was their post office box (as surely they couldn't go to our post office, being inside the tv and all). One day I found a stack of my pictures in my grampapa's cupboard. I was heartbroken. I thought YTV didn't like my pictures. My grampapa explained that YTV thought they were too good to stay in TV land, so they were sent back for real people to see. I believed him until I was 8.

~YTV is a childrens TV station based in Toronto.

I used to think that the pictures on my walls could acctually see me. This made me very nervous, especially when I had to change my clothes. In fact, I still get jittery changing in my bedroom.

When I was about 7 or 8, I saw a TV show I really enjoyed. Looking in the TV listings for that time and station, I found "To Be Announced." For quite a while, I kept looking for "To Be Announced" in the listings, hoping for another chance to see that same show.

I used to believe that the people in the tv could see me, and cartoons were real people and not drawings.

When I was five years old and younger, I thought that the people on TV were related to me. I had a difficult time at that age telling dreams and TV from reality. I thought Ricky Ricardo, Danny Thomas, Andy Griffith, and Tennesee Ernie Ford were my uncles. I still have clear memories of them visiting at my house, although that never happened. I wondered why Fred Flintstone never came around. I wondered why Jack Parr always made me sleepy. I thought he was magic or something, but now I realize he was on late at night when I was sleepy.

There was a soap opera character named Timmy from Passions, the actor's name who portrayed the role was Josh Ryan Evans. I thought that Josh Ryan Evans was only about 8-10 years old. I didn't realize that he is 19 years old after I read his bio on the internet.

When I was 6 or 7, I was leaving my friend Mason's house when an ad for an R-rated movie came on the TV. I said the movie looked cool and he said "Too bad we can't see it, 'cause it's rated R, for adults." For some reason, I heard "'cause it's rated R, for dogs." My parents were unable to convince me that R-rated movies weren't for dogs and were actually for grown-ups. The next time I went to Mason's we straightened it all out, but to this day whenever my parents hear "Rated R" at the end of a movie advertisement, they'll say "for dogs!"
