I used to watch fishing shows with my mum and I thought the fishermen on the show were so good that they always caught fish every time they cast their lines! It wasn't until muuuch later that I realized they just cut out all the footage where they didn't catch anything.

Growing up, my brother and I believed the people in the TV could see us just like we could see them, so we always hid somewhere if we didn't want to be seen, like if we were just in our underwear

When I was about four or five years old, I believed that if you looked behind the TV while you were watching a movie, you'd see a portal to the universe/world the movie takes place in. I'd always look behind the TV, hoping that I'd eventually see the portal.

I used to think that I could break the TV and walk inside of it to be in sesame street.

I'm not sure if they still do, but PBS at least used to conclude a lot of shows with, "... is brought to you by the corporation for public broadcasting, and by viewers like you." I assumed Viewers Like You was just another company of some kind.

When I was a kid, our local news was read by a woman named Christa Ackroyd - but I misheard her name as Christa Asteroid. Using this piece of evidence along with the fact that she knew all about the newsworthy events that were going on around Yorkshire, she must be an alien with special powers. When she was reading the news, she was telling us what she'd been using her superpowers for that day - eg. if there had been a murder she would have caught the murderer, if there had been a flood she would have brought all the people to safety.
But she didn't like to brag about that, she just told us what had been going on.

I used to believe that Gustavo Dudamel's (principal conductor of LA philharmonic) name was La Phil because all the advertisements for LA philharmonic said "La Phil", with a picture a Gustavo Dudemal conducting. Fortunately, I only believed this for about 4 years until my brother told me that the conductors name was Gustavo Dudamel, not La Phil.

When I was younger, I simultaneously thought that the Addams Family was a reality show, and that if you named your kid Adam then he'd grow up to be weird like them.

When I was a kid, my mom was the first to tell me about the "ball drop" in New York on New Year's Eve. I'd never seen the ball drop before, so I assumed it meant that someone standing on the roof of a building in Times Square would throw the ball into the crowd below! I was watching TV before the ball drop started and they mentioned that the ball weighed over 10,000 pounds. I was alarmed, because throwing something that size into a crowd would kill people! Luckily, my preconceptions were wrong. There is no throwing, and the "drop" is actually a controlled descent.

I used to believe that the contents of home-recorded VHS tapes were partially randomized each time they were played. I can probably blame this on a combination of older tapes being recorded over, and sections becoming defunct as they wore out with time.

The TV guide showed "To Be Announced" for the hour when my favorite show came on. I used to believe that "To Be Announced" was just another name for that show, and got excited when I saw it in other places.

I used to believe that if I saw a horror movie, the characters in that film would be with me at night and were going to make me the same that they did to their victims in the film, so always I waited that my parents went to sleep and if I couldn't fall asleep at that moment, I would listen to music but there were occasions when I opened my eyes and I saw strange figures, so I turned on the light and it was just bad-off clothes or things.

Nowadays I'm 18 and if I see an horror movie, it's going to be the same, I'm going to think the same, so I prefer not to watch these movies.

So I watched WWE. I used to believe that it was real. I was like " Man how do they wrestle like that. And just bounce around." I was sooo caught up in it. But then my dad said it was all fake. I was all like NOOOO! My belief (P.S. I still do think its real) ;)

That all t.v. shows were perfomed live

I used to believe the eagle's wing in the Nationwide logo was a human rib cage. I thought it was a literal illustration of their slogan, "Nationwide is on your side."

I used to be skeptical about non-disney fairytale characters, since their name was the same but their appearance was diferent. I didn't know copyrights existed and I wanted all fairytale characters to be homogeneous to Disney's version xD
