When I was little, I used to believe that if I left the T.V. off, then a dinosaur would come and get me. I guess that's the reason I'm such a couch potato.

back when i watched carebears, i used to be scared to death of that one villian whose name escapes me, the ice guy. And I thought that if I couldn't see behind me, then he was most likely sneaking up on me and I felt much safer looking into a mirror because I could see he wasn't there.

When I was little I used to believe that our region had won some kind of lottery and the local news was broadcast nationally; and everyone else across the country had to patiently watch our news, hoping that their region would be selected next. It never occured to me that you could split the signal into different regions. My brother only pointed this out when I was explaining it to a Swedish visitor who was staying at our house, aged about 7. Quite worringly, I now work for the same broadcaster in the department responsible for regional broadcasting!

When I was around four years old, I thought that the television worked on the same principle as the cassette tape player. If you wanted to see a certain show (ex: Speed Racer), you had to leave the television on until it got to that show. Then you could either watch the show, or turn the televison off to "save" the show to watch later. It didn't take me long to figure out that this wasn't how it worked.

A friend of mine (at age 15, so I guess she should've known) used to believe that when you scream in a bottle and you close it, the moment you open the bottle, the bottle would scream. When we asked her how the hell she got to this thought, she simply said "Well I saw it in a cartoon, so I thought it could really happen". Well of course.
We still tease her about this one.

when the song the 'entertainer' came on the car radio, I believed there was a complete orchestra inside actually playing the song.
I used to believe that cartoon characters on TV were real people dressed up in cartoon outfits, acting on a cartoon stage with cartoon props. Also everytime I turned on the TV, I thought that the actors would get the signal really really fast that I turned on my TV and was acting live from the studio. I couldn't figure out in my head how they could get into costume so fast.

When I first heard "The Exorcist," I thought that "The Exorcist" was something about exercising and work out.
I always thought that the channels were set on your car radio and you couldn't change them. I'm ashamed to admit that I believed that until I was 24 years old and my husband explained it to me! Good thing this is an anonymous post because I'm a published novelist and not too proud of this!
