I used to believe…
As a kid I really liked Bart Simpson, enough that I told my Mom I was going to marry him. She said "honey, you can't marry a cartoon, they aren't real" I didn't believe her and kept going with my belief that I would marry Bart Simpson someday.
I used to watch the Hanna Barbara cartoon of Laurel and Hardy, and could never for the life of me understand why they called each other "Stan" and "Ollie" when their names were Laurel and Hardy, like the title said! Hah!

As a child I used to believe all actors on tv were puppets and had lollypop sticks stuck to their heads moving them around. Then I wondered how they did that when their body wasn't the full height of the tv screen.
I thought that if you broke your tv, all the actors and characters and everything would come running out through your tv, and i wanted to break it so bad beacuse i wanted to meet big bird!

When I was little I used to believe that when I heard a song on the radio it was the band or music group live. When I heard a song I liked I would run to the tv thinking that the song on the radio was on the tv at the same time. Later I found out and CD's.
I used to believe that you could talk to the people on tv and that they would talk back. I am a basketball fan so when I was younger I would always yell at the players thinking that they could hear me and learn from their mistakes.
I used to believe when I was very young that bands actually came to the radio station and set up, played their song, and then left so the next band could hurry up and set their stuff up...
i used to think that 1980s Pepsi commercial said: "Catch that Pepsi spirit, to get in, to get in, to get in" when they were really saying: "Catch that Pepsi spirit, drink it in, drink it in, drink it in..."
I used to believe that if you called the number on one of those Christian Children's Fund commercials they would actually send you a child. I was an only child and always begged my mom and dad to send me a baby from South America.
I used to believe…
For many many years, my father had my brother and myself convinced that "Kemo-sabe" really meant "bat-shit". The story was they had used the term on the old Lone Ranger radio shows, without knowing what it really meant. By the time the series was on TV, it was too late to change it. So, for years, we believed this.
Flash forward 20+ years later. A friend from the office and I were heading downtown, and he started relating the same story from HIS father. I'm from Chiacgo, he was from Pittsburgh, and there was no way our fathers could have ever met. I was laughing so hard I almost lost control of the car....

When listening to Terry Wogan on the radio, I used to think that the musicians/singers were there in the studio with him, as sometimes he'd make comments that sounded like he was talking to them. Things like "thanks for that, what a great song"

This started when I was about 11. I had these heartthrob posters on my wall. (My favorite was Shaun Cassidy.) Well, I would not get undressed in front of them, because I thought he could see me. This lasted way into my teens.

When I was little, the Cinnamon Toast Crunch commercials involved the guy on the logo zapping the cinnamon on, so I thought that the guy lived inside of the electrical socket. A couple of times I tried to find him, but I never did.
I used to think lady and the tramp was an old movie with actors and marilyn monroe. My parents had me go home and watch it, and then i realized it was a cartoon and i actually liked it!
I used to love the TV show 'The Time Tunnel' but i was upset that the heroes were called Douglas and Tony. These were my brothers names, so why didn't they have a character named after me :(
I was exposed to violent movies at a young age so whenever someone would get shot, I thought that somekind of magic poison blood would come out of the gun and kill the person... nice thought for a 5 year old, huh?
I used to believe (and I still believe my demented kindergarden teacher put this belief into our heads) that the FBI warning at the beginning of videos prohibiting unauthorized copies meant that we could not act out anything we saw on the tape, that is to say, copy their actions. So when I was the only one who stood up and imitated the dancing on the tape, the entire class screamed at me to sit down, and I have felt the first of many traumatic school experiences...it was only until 3rd grade I learned that copies of movies could be made, something we learned to do quite rapidly with our spare VCR and Blockbuster membership..
