My mom told me that "commercials lie." When I was five or so, I noticed that the laundry detergent that we used was one that I had seen a commercial for. Since the commercial said that it was a good detergent and cleaned clothes, I was sure that this was a lie and I tried to get my mom to throw it out.

When I was around 4, I used to believe that when the TV was off, it was the people in it that were watching us in the house. So when I was walking in front of the switched off TV set, I always had my best behavior, going as far as doing some little chores, like straightening out the edges of the rug in the living room.

When I was about 4 my dad let me watch the movie 'Garbage Pail Kids' which is about, like, demonic cabbage patch dolls. I guess he thought it was a kid movie? Anyway, one of them eats toes and for about 20 years I couldn't sleep with my feet out from under the blankets. Thanks, Dad.

When I was maybe six or seven, I saw the movie Star Wars and thought lightsabers were the coolest things ever. I asked my mom if they were real, and she said yes- but you have to be 21 or older to own one. I couldn't wait to turn 21 and buy my own lightsaber.

Whenever I was coloring with markers and didn't have a skin-colored marker, I would color the people yellow. So when I saw The Simpsons, I naturally assumed that they were yellow because the person drawing them didn't have a skin-colored marker.

When I was 6 or 7, I grew up in that generation of Dragonball Z and Sailor Moon, so not only did I believe that if you learn martial arts you can utilize flying, and energy blasts, that if you believe hard enough and "train" that when you turn 14, you can become a sailor scout....Also only in japan did Pok�mon and Digimon exist (they didn't coexist in the same area however), and you could only receive a partner if you lived there. So my pikachu plush was the closest I got to having a "real" Pok�mon. I watched too much TV as a kid lol

From the time I was about 3 till I was (embarrassingly enough) about 16 or so, I thought that the Bavarian lady on the logo of the Schneider's Meats company had gigantic ears, when it was in fact the sides of the bonnet she was wearing. For some reason I never questioned why she would have huge freakish ears. I guess I'm a person accepting of differences?
