I used to believe that when I was watching a tv program and I had to turn the tv off when it was time for dinner, when I turned the tv back on, the program would start at the same spot where I had left off!

When I was a child my Mom helped me order a yellow plastic canteen with a red plastic strap on it from the back of a box of Rice Crispies. In the center of the canteen was a sticker showing Snap Crackle, and Pop. At the time, there was a coresponding TV commercial promoting the canteen and cereal which showed Snap, Crackle, and Pop moving around and talking on the canteen. I waited and waited for what seemed like a year to get the canteen...checking the mail every day. When it finally came, I excitedly opened the box and fully expected to see Snap, Crackle and Pop, moving around and having fun on the front of my new canteen. When I saw that the characters weren't moving...I was sure that the canteen must have been faulty.

when i was 4 of 5 i thought that the Simpsons were supost to be animals, not humans (yellow skin, four fingers...) so i got really confused when Marge described Homer as a "human being" in one episode.

one evening, when I was in the third or fourht grade me and my grandma were watching one of David Copperfield's magic specials and there came a time in the show when David wanted the audience to put their fingers on the screen and participate in the trick, so I put my finger on the screen, and, having a second thought i removed it and David looked into the camera and said, "no, no, put it back, even though i'm here and you're there, i can see what you're doing." my mouth dropped to the floor and I looked at my grandma and her mouth was hanging open too. true story.

There used to be a wonderful TV programme called "Animal Magic" presented by Johnny Morris, who dressed as a zoo keeper and talked to animals. I was in my thirties before I found out he wasn't really a zoo keeper.

It was nice to find out that I am not the only one who believed that the people on the television lived inside it! I remember looking at the back of the TV and wondering what would happen if the back came off.

Whenever my parents would turn on a TV show and groan, "Oh, it's a repeat," I always assumed that the station had rounded up the actors, and had them perform it all over again.

Back in the 60s, at the end of the "Dragnet", they would always show the criminal while a voice-over said, "Fred Johnson is now serving a life sentence..." I didn't realize they were actors. When I saw that same actor on "Star Trek" or something, I always thought, "Wow! He robbed a bank, and now he's on 'Star Trek'!" (I didn't think any other TV characters were real, just "Dragnet's" criminals, because they always said it was a true story.)

As a small child, I used to believe that Elizabeth Taylor (the actress) and Queen Elizabeth (the queen) were the same person. I think I figured out the difference around 3rd-4th grade (1962), but I was really confused there for a while (both were in the news a lot back then).

Until the age of about six I assumed that people killed in movies and tv shows were convicted criminals on Death Row who were going to die anyway.
I used to believe that films on TV used to carry on during the adverts. So if there was a car chase, I was missing it while they showed ads for dog food. I always wanted the ads to be really short so that I didn't miss anything important in the plot.

when I was really little, I used to think that there were people living inside the Tv (also people living in the record player but anyway...) and that was the reason my Mum wouldn't let me watch TV late at night because they'd all gone to bed and I'd wake them up

I used to believe when we first had TV that if a woman was playing a harp, she put her hand through the strings to play the other side

When we first had TV in 1953 and there was someone playing the pianon I used to believe for years the reflection was another pair of hands playing along with him.

when i was younger watching the Ren and Stimpy Show, i didn't think that Ren was a dog or Stimpy was a cat....i thought they were something else. even when Stimpy was in the cat litter i wasn't convinced

As a child, I didn't know what rewinding a tape was. I always assumed that the actors just got back into position and some would even get fed up with having to do the same scene over and over for me. I tried not to rewind it too many times because I was afraid they were going to yell at me that they were tired of having to do it over and over. The funny thing is that recently, here in the US, they have started showing commercials for TVO (I think) where you can rewind live tv and the actors pretend like they are having to do it all over again. One even says, "Do you think we will make it this time?" (the scene is about a car in the air apparently trying to make it to the other side) and the other actor replies, "Do we ever make it?" and the car proceeds to fall. So apparently I wasn't the only one to believe this.
i used to think that to win the game 'minesweeper' is to find out the bomb as soon as possible,so i always win but never understand why the smiley face turned upset when i 'won'.i thought it's a stupid game.i didn't realize until i've been 'winning' the game for 3 years.
I used to believe( when I was 4 or 5y or so) that people on television could see people who were watching television....so when there was a host or an actor I didn't like I started to make funny faces...
One day my mom asked me what I was doing and I explained her and she started laughing and this story is haunting me since then.

So, I'm the only one in the world that spent over 20 years thinking they were Life Savers instead of Light Sabers in Star Wars, huh? And actually, at about 18 I decided they were Light Savers, even though they were completely made of light...yeah, I'm quick
