In the 1970s, Life Bouy Soap commercials showed people stepping out of the shower, squeaky clean, and two feet off the ground. I remember buying a bar of soap and excitedly taking a shower, expecting to "walk on air" like the people did in the ads. Two seconds after I stepped out of the shower it dawned on my how stupid I had been to believe the commercials.

Although I never believed that there were actually people inside your tv, I thought that you could see the other channels by looking up the side of the tv screen, as if they were all in a big line, and when you changed channels they simply moved across.

When I was around 8-9, I would sneak and watch the forbidden program "Three's Company". So only catching bits of it I couldn't figure out what the big deal was to be homosexual because to my mind, being "gay" meant you “acted” like the opposite sex... that it took a lesbian woman and homosexual man make a couple, but then the woman would have to lead when they danced.
I used to believe that unless a movie was really good, it would not be released to the general public. It made sense in that why would anybody want to see a bad movie? The illusion went out the window the day I saw 'Police Academy 2'.
I still think it would be a good idea, though.
I used to think that when you turned off the TV, the program would stop, and then resume the next time you turned the TV on. I never noticed that this never seemed to be the case.

My dad told me that often on his subway trip to work in NYC, he would see Mr. Magoo on the same train. He really meant Jim Bakkus, who did the voice of Mr. Magoo. But I always pictured the cartoon character sitting amongst real people on the train.

When I was about 5 years old my favourite tv show was the Flintstones. I really wanted to be able to play with Pebbles and Bambam - so much in fact my Mum found me one day unscrewing the back of the television set so I could climb in to be with them.

In the U.S. there is this very long-running commercial for a bathroom cleaner with 'scrubbing bubbles.' In the commercial, the bubbles were these little round things with eyes and scrub brushes for moustaches. I always thought that if you poured out this particular brand your tub would fill with these little characters. A friend of mine (who grew up in another part of the country) believed the EXACT same thing, and neither sets of our parents would buy it for us so we could try. They always bought Comet. We're in our 30s now and still marvel at those little bubbles with faces.

When watching T.V. when very young I used to believe that the people inside the television could see me as well as me being able to see them, I always made sure I was dressed when watching T.V.!!! I also used to listen to music on the radio a lot and believed that the pop-groups and singers were actually in the studio with the D.J. and played their latest song live when he introduced them. Eventually I said to myself "I think he cheats, and plays records and that the Rolling Stones aren't there with him after all."

My sister told me that little people lived in the radio and that's what gives us music. For a while there I was afraid that KISS were going to come out and get me.

When I was small (4 or 5) I believed that the monsters in the Japanese monster flicks were as tall as buildings and that there were a bunch of operators within the monster to operate its movement.
I used to believe that my posters could see me. I used to have loads of STEPS posters on my bedroom walls, and would always be on my best behaviour when I went into my bedroom, because I believed that STEPS were watching me on a TV screen , through their eyes on the posters.
