I used to believe…

When I was little I used to think when you have watched a video I couldn't rewind it back to the beginning, because actor or actress would start doing things backwards in real life when the film rewinds. So I never used to rewind them back to the beginning. It has become a little annoying habit now.

I used to believe that the Captain's Log in Star Trek, was really a log

A cousin of mine used to believe that you could only see movies in the country in which they were made. Since Star Wars was an American movie, you could only see it in America, and if the Brits wanted to see Star Wars, for example, they would have to make their own British version.

Little did he know that most of Star Wars was filmed in Britain!

When I would watch The Wizard of Oz I was so involved in the story and characters that I took the background sets for granted. I knew there wasn't really an Oz I suppose, but I just never thought about the settings not being real in some way. From about the age of 12 until I was around 16, I had managed to miss the movie every time it was on tv. The night I caught it again my boyfriend was there, and I remember just staring at the screen during the poppy field scene and saying "it's not real!" He laughed and asked me, "what's not real?" and I said "the sets are painted and they aren't real!"
He thought I was crazy not having realized before that the movie was done in a studio, I was broken hearted. I think that night, the last of my "childhood" illusions were shattered!

When i was a child my cousin told me that i would be going onto crackerjack, the kids programme, i believed her and trained hard, after 6 months she asked what i was practicing for i told her crackerjack, oh she said i forgot about that, i was only winding you up. Very funny, thanks deb.

I used to believe that everyone was constantly being filmed. This was due to crime reconstruction programmes, although I couldn't understand why they couldn't catch the criminal. But it stopped me from being bad cause i thought my mum could watch me

I could never understand why I couldn't see the blinking eyes of the camera man when I was watching T.V. I thought that what I saw on the screen was what HE saw, so surely I should see his eyelids every now and again...

I saw Superman 2 when I was about 3, and I remember it being late at night when I got to bed. At the end, Superman flies round the world, and I remember spending a good while looking at the night sky to see if I could see him.

I thought that the Kung fu expert Bruce Lee's real chinese name was "Brushlee". And it even went that far that managed to convince the staff at our local video rental shop regarding this "truth".

My dad used to wear blue jeans and a straw hat. I used to belive that my dad was really Smokey the Bear.

When the advert breaks came on tv I used to belive that when they said "We'll be right back after these messages" that the tv people were reading mail.

I used to believe that if you were watching a program, and you broke the TV picture tube, that the actors and actresses would come right into your living room, thus you could actually have a nice visit with your favorite actor/actress. Good job I never actually tried this... I had too many "favorite" programs, I couldn't decide which ones should come into my living room!

When I was young (1980s), and violent or sexual programming was advertised on television with the disclaimer, "Parental Discretion Advised," I thought the TV announcer was actually saying "Friendly Discussion Advised."

It made sense to me because I thought the extreme nature of these programs would make people feel scared and leave them with a need to reassure each other.

When I was 8 an advertisement for Cif (cleaning stuff) showed little men coming out of the bottle to clean the floor.
When i went to my cousins house he started shouting @ me and burst into tears because his mum had just cleaned the floor and he believed that i had squished all the little men.

I used to believe that every television program was live - that they were being taped at the same time that people watched them. Videotapes worked the same way; putting the tape into the VCR would send some sort of signal to the actors and cameramen in the studio. The FBI warnings at the beginning of the movie were really there to give them time to get ready before performing~

In Scotland the advert for our national soft drink, Irn-bru showed a bunch of guys and lassies developing phenomenal strength after drinking. I was sorely dissapointed when I could not obliterate concrete after a can or two.

I used to believe that when watching a video on tv everytime you pressed rewind the actors had to do it again just for you.

My mum used to listen to Radio 4 a lot... I used to believe that those honoured celebrities who featured on Desert Island Discs really were sent off to be shipwrecked on a desert island with their records, luxury, Bible and book!
