A friend of mine (she is 34) was a big fan of an actor called Keith O'Sullivan. It was only very recently that we discovered that she was in fact talking about Kiefer Sutherland.

i had this weird belief that if i watched a reflection of the daleks in a wall unit they could not get me ... but if i dared to look at the tv screen where they were "real" that would be the end of me

We took my sister to see National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation when she was 5. When it got to the scene of the cat being electrocuted under the chair, my dad actually had to take her out of the theatre because she was crying so much and so loud. She was convinced that they'd actually fried that cat.

When I was about 5 or 6, I used to believe that when I turned the radio off, then back on again later, it would carry on playing where it left off. After all when I did it quickly it did, and if I left it a while I couldn't remember what was on before anyway...

Or maybe they just had a really short playlist back then

When I was about 2 my dad appeared in a live TV show. My mum and I watched it together, and I distinctly remember it. When I saw my dad I shouted "Come out of the telly daddy" and ran to look behind the TV to see how he had got in.

In the Hunt For Red October, the first few minutes are spoken in Russian with English subtitles just to convey that it is a Russian submarine. It then switches to English speaking. When I was a child, I thought that every family was somehow allocated a letter of the alphabet, and it was to be used when going to the cinema. So I thought our allocated letter was "u" and therefore we were only allowed to go to the cinema when the film listed had a "U" after it!

When I was a little kid I wanted to watch Pippi Longstocking on TV, because all the other kids were talking about it, but it was on at 7 o'clock, which was my bedtime. One day my mother had had enough of my whining, so she let me stay up until 7 o'clock, and then turned the TV on -- on the wrong channel. She said: "See? There is no Pippi Longstocking on our TV." I was very disappointed of course, but I believed her! (Unfortunately this will never work with my child, she'll probably be able to program the VCR by the time she turns 3!)

On the tv show blind date they used to have a part of the floor close to the audience that was black, I thought it was a gaping hole to stop the audience from running onto the stage.

When I was little my dad told me that the girl playing noughts and crosses with the clown doll on the Test Card was me [this was 30 odd years ago in the UK] and I thought it was me [she did look a lot like me], I couldn't figure out how they'd managed to film me playing noughts and crosses with a doll that I didn't own ...
