One day I asked my dad what Billboards were. He replied "they are showing things that you can buy". I thought that you could buy the woman who was sprawled all over a car!

I went to see a movie with my 2 older brothers once. I was maybe 5 or 6 years old. After we had seen the movie, it stopped showing at the theatre. So I just assumed that every movie that we saw from then on was only at that theatre long enough for us to see it and then it was gone. I realized that this was wrong a couple of months later after we had seen a movie and it was still at that theatre afterwards.
I used to love watching biography films as a child and assumed someone, somewhere was filming everything, everyone did - just in case they became famous. A bit like The Truman Show, but happening to all of us.

When I was little I used to believe that every song I heard on the radio was being played live ... with the real band right there in the studio for everyone to hear!

My younger brother saw an ad for 'Satin Touch' tampons on TV. Later he enquired to my mom, "Mom? What is Satan Touch?"

When I was a child, I once saw a commercial for Nutra-Sweet while I was visiting my grandma. The commercial showed bananas and milk, so I believed that if you ate bananas chopped up in a bowl of milk it would turn into sugar. I remember eating this concoction several times but alas it never turned into sugar.

when i was little and saw the first star wars movies multiple times in different theaters, i was confused because i thought that the actors were *behind* the screen... how could they be in two theaters at once?

When I was young, I used to believe that the people were really singing inside the radio, and I could never figure out how they all fit inside and still managed to be able to sing (sort of crowded in there, you know...of course, radios were much bigger back then.)
I believed that it was a very bad thing to leave the TV on at night after they played the national anthem and the screen became snow. (Yes, this was the days before 24-hour programming). I thought it would break the TV or cause a house fire. I still can't stand it when a TV is playing snow!
I seem to recall my mother telling me that before the movie "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" there were two other Close Encounters movies before this one. I never recall seeing them on video or otherwise. On a related subject, I'm still awaiting sequels to "History of the World Part I"

When I was about 4 or 5 and I used to watch TV commercials, I remember seeing a commercial for Charcoal rocks for the Barbeque Grill, In the commercial it showed the man taking out the Rocks, then it showed a nice juicy hamburger. I thought (until I was almost 8!) that you were able to buy all kind of rocks and when you put them in the flames on the grill, the formed into all different foods! I thought that you could buy Steak Rocks, Hamburger Rocks, Chicken Rocks etc.!!!! Like it were some kind of dehydrated space food!!!

Remember those old Warner brother cartoons with daffy duck, bugs and the gang. In those cartoons they had these little black bombs that walked around and where meant to represent smelly skunks. They had wave lines of funk excreating from them. I used to think thats what skunks really looked like that. I remember the first time someone pointed a skunk out to me in the wild. "Look there is a skunk" "Where? I don't see it!!"
I used to believe that Superman (played by George Reeves) was real and that the reason I'd never seen him flying around was because he lived in America (I'm Australian).
I used to believe that the names of the singers were actually the names of the DJs, especially since it was usually a woman "That was so-and-so singing such-and-such song"ing a song sung by a woman and a man "That was so-and-so singing such-and-such song"ing a song sung by a man.
Of course in my head, the DJs were saying "This is so-and-so and that was such-and-such song" instead of "That was so-and-so singing such-and-such song".
Never did figure out why they never said the names of the singers but kept on telling you who *they* were.

When I was very young my mom used to listen to the Houses of Parliament broadcasts on the radio. I thought the politicians were 'army men' because they were so rowdy! (I still think there is a grain of truth in this.)

I used to believe that TV programs only played in certain places. I lived in Georgia, and was shocked to find that they could watch "Scooby Doo" in Florida!

When I was really little I used to wonder if my life was part of a TV show that someone else was watching. As I got older we would go on vacation. By the time we got back to the hotel it would always be late. They didn't have movie channels back then so the only thing on TV was the news. I always thought that my home town was the only place in the world that had regular TV shows. I hated vacations because of that.

There was a persistent rumour at our school (that I believed) that Happy Days had been filmed in the 1950's and The Fonz had died in a motercycle accident shortly after it had finished.

There used to be a commercial that talked about how "peanut buttery" one particular brand of peanut butter was. As the commercial went on, a bunch of peanuts were poured into a jar, the jar was shaken several times, and when the jar was opened, the peanuts had turned into creamy delicious peanut butter.
Gosh, I spent a lot of time after shaking a jar full of peanuts, but they never turned into peanut butter. I still kind of expect that to work somehow...

When I was 5 my dad asked me if I wanted to see really scary looking goblins. I asked if they looked real (cuz I was curious as to if goblins were real.) and he led me to believe that the golblins WERE real. By now I was REALLY curious so I said yes lets see them. So my dad put 'March of the Wooden Soldiers' on (VHS) and we watched it until the goblins came out. I remember crying because I wanted to see REAL goblins...not a bunch of guys in suits.
